What’s the OpportunityThe Construction Compliance team is growing and diversifying. The discipline now includes delivery of the Building Regulations Principal Designer role, and associated services. This is a result of the regulatory changes driven by the implementation of the Building Safety Act. Our Oxford team are looking for a Building Regulations Principal Designer to join them. You may be from a Building Control or Architectural Technician background – or any other discipline that provides a good knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations. Our team are a friendly and welcoming group of health and safety professionals, working on some of the most prestigious projects undertaken at Ridge, including a billion-pound medical research and development institute, Oxford United Football Club, and multiple projects with Oxford County Council. As a discipline we work across the UK with a wide range of both new and longstanding clients within different businesses and in sectors as diverse as residential, commercial, retail, office, manufacturing, healthcare and education. Our services include strategic, tactical, and operational aspects of our clients’ businesses. Delivery often includes writing policies and procedures, carrying out site inspections and audits, writing up project progress reports and capturing progress in relation to regulatory compliance. As Ridge is a multi-disciplinary organisation, we deliver our services as an organisation and work collaboratively to deliver robust solutions to meet our clients’ aims, objectives and aspirations within the parameters of the Building Safety Act and the Building Regulations. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a highly successful consultancy which is going through an exciting period of growth What you need to do to be effective in this role• The ability to offer specialist advice around the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations to both external clients and the wide range of Ridge disciplines as they require support.• Undertake plan checks and review designs to establish compliance for submission for Building Regulation approval.• Attend client and design team meetings to give professional advice regarding building regulations.• Provide technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, colleagues, and key stakeholders.• Ensure project design is completed in line with current building regulations and legislation.• Inspect properties and buildings at key stages of the design process. You will also be responsible for the development of new opportunities and new clients, as well as maintenance of existing clients, to win work and to network and generate a revenue stream.• Support growth of the team: o Helping to develop individuals to achieve their personal and career goalso Strengthening productivity and the commercial performance of the team • Be competent to work independently on projects with expertise in the sectors you work in • You will work primarily on Building Regulation Principal Designer commissions at both a strategic level and at a detailed level• Support with the ongoing development of process and procedures • Be able to establish and maintain high standards as quality of work and ‘added value’ for our clients • Be capable to lead in the delivery of bid submissions• Work closely with all members of the firm who could be either clients or collaborators The skills and experience you need to have for this role• Possess specialist knowledge and expertise or demonstrable technical interest (could be sector specific or technically specific)• Ability to work on multiple projects• An understanding of the design process and the principles of risk reduction• A thorough knowledge of the Building Regulations and associated legislation• Appropriate experience of the design and construction processes• Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
