Trainee/Apprentice Surveyor
Job Description
Established in 1992, predominantly as an inshore diving contractor, EDS has expanded into a multifaceted marine and civil engineering contractor with an extensive array of professional skills and a wealth of industry knowledge and experience.
EDS are seeking to recruit a full-time Trainee/Apprentice Surveyor to assist our growing team. This is a great opportunity to build your career by providing in-house services to support our marine inspection and construction works across the UK. The right candidate will be working to our purpose every day: engineering solutions in challenging locations.
Based at our South Wales Head Office, near Cardiff.
The entry-level role will be varied, working and learning alongside experienced members of the team, eventually putting acquired skills into practice as you gain experience on the job. Alongside in-house training and other accreditation, the successful applicant will be enrolled in the TSA Surveying Course, an industry-recognized pathway to a career in geomatics.
A background in engineering, surveying, or hydrography would be an advantage, but we welcome applicants from varied paths that can bring a new perspective to the team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Become proficient in various survey techniques, including the use of equipment and software packages.
2. Support Teams as required.
3. Equipment maintenance.
4. Produce site records and specified output/deliverables as required.
5. Preparing survey drawings.
6. Presenting data to clients and writing reports.
Skills & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following experience/qualifications (negotiable):
1. 1 year+ in a similar role (Desirable but not essential)
2. Educated to Degree Level (Desirable but not essential)
3. Surveying Background (Desirable but not essential)
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
5. Strong communication skills.
6. Ability to work safely.
7. Ability to work to deadlines.
8. Capable swimmer and comfortable working in/around water and within confined spaces.
9. Be eligible to live and work in the UK.
10. Hold a full valid UK driving license.
11. Lateral and logical thinking.
12. Confidence with and a keen interest in new technology.
13. Problem-solving and analysis skills.
14. Right to work in the UK.
