Principal Flood Risk Modeller
Location: Leeds
Our client is a leading design, engineering, environment, and regulatory consultancy, planning and designing sustainable communities and cities of the future. Due to securing further workload, their Leeds Head office is looking for a Principal Flood Risk Consultant to join their Flooding and Water Management Team. You will be joining a growing team of civil engineers, modellers, and hydrologists who undertake engineering and hydraulic modelling in areas of infrastructure, flood risk management, surface water management, SUDs, and integrated catchment studies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the delivery of a wide variety of projects for key clients in the UK and Europe.
2. Conduct project feasibility studies, outline design, hydraulic model build and verification, hydrological assessments, design support, construction support, asset management, and development impact assessments.
3. Manage and develop the clients' portfolio, actively growing the development sector for the Water Environment Department.
4. Engage with clients' technical teams, perform calculations, and produce drawings, sketches, and reports.
5. Conduct site investigations and manage projects while acting as a technical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
6. Provide technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, leading in the development of drainage skills within the Water Environment Department.
7. Recommend and implement improvements to technical policy, processes, and design solutions.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Chartered with a professional body such as CIWEM.
2. MSc/MEng or PhD focused on hydrology, hydraulics, water resources, or applied environmental science.
3. Knowledge of UK and European legislation governing the technical discipline, including planning policy and relevant design standards.
4. Excellent technical understanding of UK hydrology and open channel hydraulics.
5. Experience with GIS (e.g., ArcGIS) and hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller/TUFLOW).
