Abacus Nursery provides day-care for children from 3 months to 5 years. The ability to work as part of a team and a commitment to providing high quality childcare is essential.
We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable Supply Childcare Practitioners to come and join our team.
Previous experience of working with pre-school children is essential.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work as part of a team, supporting the provision of a secure, caring and stimulating nursery environment. You will need to understand and work within the guidelines of the Ofsted Statutory Framework for early years and the EYFS. You will need to carry out the duties of a keyperson in their absence, personal care needs of each child and education and development of the child. Support the room team in providing a rich stimulating environment that is sensitive to the children’s cultural and individual needs and promote equality and diversity. To follow policy and procedure of the Nursery and the Hospital trust. There is a need to be flexible, adaptable and available at short notice.

Job responsibilities
* To be flexible and adaptable, working as part of a team, providing childcare in the absence of permanent childcare practitioners.
* To communicate on a daily basis to parents and staff about children’s welfare, development and health and social care.
* Work closely with colleagues and nursery manager to ensure the high quality standards are maintained. This will be done on a daily basis through monthly staff meetings, quality improvement meetings and team meetings.
* To communicate effectively with children at their level in a calm, caring, reassuring manner.
* To keep the Nursery Manager/Out of School Co-ordinator informed of availability to work.
* To assist with the entire child's personal care during the nursery day, including feeding, changing nappies, or soiled clothing, special dietary requirements/sterilization of feeding, and play equipment.
* Administrate medication to the child as instructed by their parent/guardian ensuring the correct storage and documentation procedure is followed. Taking the necessary action when a child becomes ill during the nursery day, seeking advice from a permanent room member of staff to decide at which point a parent should be contacted.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working with pre-school and/or school aged children.
* Experience of working with a tablet/PC observation and assessment record system.
* Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.
Other
* Adaptable and flexible according to the demands of the service working shift rotas and ability to work at short notice.
* Understanding of need to maintain confidentiality.
* Ability to lift and manoeuvre children throughout the nursery's daily routine.
* Maintain a safe working environment for self and others.
Qualifications
* English and Maths GCSE Grade 4-9 or equivalent.
* Level 3 in Childcare/Playwork Qualification.
* Paediatric First Aid.
* Food Safety Certificate Level 2.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Knowledge of child protection procedures.
* Knowledge of the Prevent Duty.
* Awareness of own limitations.
* Knowledge of the Ofsted Statutory Framework for Early Years and the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations relating to a childcare environment.
* Knowledge of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
