Job Summary:
The Incumbent builds, erects, aligns forms for various concrete structures and foundations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Build, set and align concrete forms and apply fine concrete finishing methods in new construction and rebuild of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, playgrounds equipment foundations and related structures.
* Provide estimates of concrete quantities, appropriate mixes of sand and cement if concrete is hand mixed.
* Cut and place reinforcing wire mesh, prepare appropriate sand and cement mixtures and place, pour and rough level of concrete.
* Fine finish concrete by floating, troweling, edging and brushing in accordance with specifications.
* Interpret blueprints and read survey stakes to establish grade and estimates volume of concrete required for specific job.
* Direct a small group of labourers engaged in mixing and placing concrete as required.
* Maintain an inventory of supplies, order and purchase replacements in a timely fashion in accordance with City procurement processes.
* Maintain accurate records.
* Act as Heavy Equipment Operator 1 or 2 as assigned.
* Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
* Other related duties.

Position Requirements:
Working Conditions:
Four 10 hours shifts per week Sunday to Saturday between 0700 and 0700. Exposure to dust/dirt, road conditions, high traffic areas (vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist), fumes/odours, bodily fluids/waste, temperature extremes, inclement weather, noise requiring hearing protection when performing duties. Heavy lifting over 25 kgs. is a regular requirement.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
* Grade 12 with an equivalent combination of training and experience in all phases of concrete work.
* 3 years previous experience and 6 months on-the-job training.
* Valid Class 1 driver's license with air endorsement.
* Traffic control course (14 hours).
* Fall Arrest (7 hours).
* Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete construction and maintenance.
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
* Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
* Ability to interpret blueprints and make simple calculations in order to read surveys stakes and calculate areas and volumes.
* Ability to instruct and direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.
* Ability to maintain simple accurate records.
* Skill in the use and care of hand and small power tools associated with the work.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
