Textile puts tremendous strain on our environment. Recycling Rewards is an innovative collection service that serves as the important link between those wishing to part with unwanted, reusable goods and those in need of them. Recycling Rewards is a for-profit Canadian recycling company operating in the province of Ontario. Established in 2005, we have been setting the standard in the recycling industry for the collection and recycling of clothing, toys, books, small appliances, and other unwanted items. The Role
As a Collections Driver, you play a pivotal role in the efficient and safe collection of items. Operating collection vehicles, you adhere to all traffic regulations and employ defensive driving practices, ensuring the secure and proper loading of collected items. Your responsibilities also include maintaining the vehicle's safety through regular inspections, promptly reporting accidents or incidents, and managing working hours to prevent driver fatigue. Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, you contribute to a visible and safe work environment, while compliance with transportation regulations and effective communication protocols ensures the successful execution of collection routes. Through your diligence, you uphold the highest standards of safety, supporting the overall effectiveness of the collections process.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for proper handling of products collected from donation bins.
2. Ensure all work areas such as product loading areas, collection bin sites and trailer sites are maintained, cleaned and in operational condition.
3. Work in collaboration with collection supervisors for maintenance of bins and replacements as and when required.
4. Ensure all garbage collected from the collection bin is disposed of to the dump yard and warehouse compactors on a day-to-day basis.
5. Scan and access all products collected from home pick up locations and ensure if the products are resalable and in compliance with the company standards.
6. Ensure all product deliveries and pickups are scheduled to Talize stores as and when needed.
7. Assist the administration team in collecting company supplies from vendors as required.
8. Responsible to report any incidents or accidents to immediate supervisor or manager for further action.
9. Ensure all company protocols, transportation by laws are followed for operation of commercial trucks and are in compliance with the Ministry of Transportation.
10. Responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles and make sure that the vehicle is in operational condition before the start and end of each shift.
11. Maintain good communication with the third-party vendors and customers ensuring effective customer service.
12. Demonstrate positive attitude towards fellow workers, donors, and customers on a regular basis.
Health and Safety
Vehicle Safety:
1. Regularly inspecting and maintaining collection vehicles to ensure they are in optimal and safe working condition.
Safe Driving Practices:
1. Adhering to all traffic rules and regulations, practicing defensive driving, and avoiding risky behaviors on the road.
2. Being trained and prepared for emergency situations, including knowledge of first aid procedures and the ability to respond to accidents or incidents promptly.
Load Securing:
1. Ensuring that collected items are safely and securely loaded in the vehicle to prevent shifting or falling during transit.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
1. Wearing and using appropriate personal protective equipment, such as reflective gear or safety vests, especially during low-visibility conditions.
Fatigue Management:
1. Managing working hours and taking breaks to prevent driver fatigue, which is crucial for maintaining alertness and safety on the road.
2. Promptly reporting any accidents, near misses, or incidents to supervisors, and participating in post-accident investigations as required.
Compliance with Regulations:
1. Adhering to all relevant regulations governing transportation, including load limits, hours of service, and licensing requirements.
Communication Protocols:
1. Following established communication protocols with dispatch and supervisory teams to report safety concerns, delays or issues during collection routes.

Education, Experience and Requirements
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a driver or in a similar capacity.
2. Minimum of 25 years of age.
3. Experience driving at least 18-24 feet truck/vehicle.
4. Must have G license with good drivers abstract.
Physical Requirements and work environment:
1. Stamina and physical fitness for extended periods of driving. Ability to drive for long periods of time. Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs. or more without assistance.
2. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
3. Physically alert while driving vehicle.
