Hours of work: 28 hours per week for each PA – 2:1 Care
Nature of the job role:
Lady in her early 60s with Cerebral Palsy. She has restricted mobility and is a wheelchair user. Employer is profoundly deaf, but able to write her requirements to ensure that her personal care needs and activity of daily living tasks are met.
Employer is seeking to employ 2 additional personal assistants to join her team of carers.
CARE REQUIREMENTS – 7 DAYS PER WEEK
Morning Between 8 - 9 am:
2:1 carers’ x 1 hour each to assist with transfers and personal care tasks.
PERSONAL CARE AND TRANSFERS:
Carers to access the property via key safe and if the Employer is asleep, the carer to lightly touch her to make her aware of their arrival.
Carers to make coffee as follows: put half a teaspoon of coffee, add with 1.5 spoons of thickener, and mix with lactose-free milk.
Carers to assist the Employer with sitting up on the bed and offer coffee. While the Employer is having her coffee, carers to support opening the curtains in both the bedroom and sitting room.
Once the Employer has finished drinking her coffee, carers to prepare the shower chair and assist with transferring the Employer from bed onto the shower chair using a track hoist.
Care staff to prepare and provide the Employer with breakfast of choice in line with her dietary requirements of a pureed diet. The Employer usually has cereals blended with milk in the morning.
Afternoon - Between 1 and 2 pm:
2:1 carers’ x 1 hour each to assist with transfers and personal care tasks.
PERSONAL CARE & TRANSFERS:
Carers to assist with transfers using a ceiling track hoist - carer to complete transfer from chair to wheelchair as required. Transfer into the bathroom to assist with toileting and pad change. The Employer may require assistance with personal care following pad changes such as washing and drying lower areas of her body. Additional transfers into the shower will be required in this instance. Care staff to monitor skin integrity during calls.
NUTRITION SUPPORT:
Care staff to provide meal and drink of choice in line with the Employer's dietary requirements of a pureed diet. Care staff to monitor nutritional intake to prevent and monitor the risk of choking.
PM Between 5 pm - 6 pm:
2:1 carers’ x 1 hour each to assist with transfers and personal care tasks.
TRANSFERS & PERSONAL CARE:
Carers to assist with transfers using a ceiling track hoist - carer to complete transfer from chair to wheelchair as required. Transfer into the bathroom to assist with toileting and pad change. Care staff to monitor skin integrity during calls. Care staff to complete transfer from toilet/shower chair to wheelchair/armchair dependent upon choice. Care staff to dispense medication into the Employer's hands where she is able to take these independently.
NUTRITION SUPPORT:
Care staff to provide meal and drink of choice in line with the Employer's dietary requirements of a pureed diet. Care staff to monitor nutritional intake to prevent and monitor the risk of choking.
Evening Between 10pm & 11pm:
2:1 carers’ x 1 hour each to assist with transfers and personal care tasks.
TRANSFERS & PERSONAL CARE:
Care staff to assist with transfer from armchair/wheelchair using ceiling track hoist to bathroom. Care staff to assist with transfer using ceiling track hoist to toilet and to assist with pad changes. Care staff to assist the Employer using a shower chair into the shower and complete personal care tasks as required. Care staff ensure the Employer is dry and that skin integrity is monitored and maintained. Care staff to assist with transfer from bathroom to bedroom to assist with dressing tasks into night attire of choice. Care staff to replenish drinks of choice if required. Care staff to ensure areas of use are clean and tidy. Care staff to ensure the Employer is safe and well upon departure and the property is secured.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Desirable:
Knowledge of BSL
Experience of working within the care sector and using hoists
Carer must be flexible with their hours.
Enhanced DBS check required.
