Job overview
Within central access, we have exciting opportunities to work within our established Psychiatric Liaison Service. This post offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to come into services at a time when Psychiatric Liaison is high on the national agenda with regard to being embedded in all emergency departments/wider hospital.
The service provides all psychiatric input to the Acute Hospital for those presenting with a mental health problem, be it solely in the Emergency Department or as a comorbid presentation on any of the significant number of wards with approximately 1800 beds.
Main duties of the job
1. Liaison staff providing comprehensive biopsychosocial mental health assessments.
2. Providing psychological interventions to patients within the acute hospital.
3. Liaising with professionals involved in the person's care.
4. Providing training and education to acute staff.
We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced and confident individuals to enhance the current service provided to those patients presenting to the Acute Trust within our dedicated Liaison Team in Newcastle Hospitals based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist.
* Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/psychological interventions/skills relevant to the post.
* Proven track record of post-registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
* Training in CPA (Care Programme Approach), Safeguarding, MAPPA (Multi Agency Panel for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults) and Child Protection.
* Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
Knowledge and Experience
* 12 to 24 month band 5 qualified nurse experience dependent upon service need.
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
Skills and Competencies
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management/Safety Planning skills.
* Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence-based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance.
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
* Ability to adapt within a changing environment.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
