The main duty of the post holder is to provide a portering service to the Emergency Department, support patient transfers to the wards and to carry out routine ADHOC duties - supporting with department deliveries.
Responsibilities:
1. Liaising with the nurse in charge of the emergency department and operational teams.
2. Provide a portering service to all wards and departments.
3. Escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley.
4. Transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments.
5. Collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department.
6. Distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested.
7. Assist at cardiac arrests.
8. Transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials.
9. Report any suspicious incidents and assist where necessary.
10. Assist with low level security requests when required.
11. Attend mandatory training courses.
12. Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
13. Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
14. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training.
15. Training in safe handling of medical gases and liquid nitrogen.
16. Holder of a Clean UK Driving Licence.
