Job Purpose/Overview:
NATS is recruiting a Network Engineer specialising in the design & delivery of change to join our Network Design team based at Whiteley or Prestwick. Providing expert knowledge of a wide range of systems with an emphasis on Networking and communication systems.
Other duties include:
1. Ensuring the design and subsequent development of Networking systems meets the needs of the work package as well as the expected integrity and reliability standards applicable in NATS.
2. Technical supervision of staff resources to achieve business objectives as set by the Work Package Manager.
3. Generation and elicitation of requirements; interface and test specifications necessary to procure, implement and accept the allocated system/sub-system.
4. Delivery of in-service system engineering and related technical documentation.
5. Maintain an awareness of technical developments that may affect the system or area of work for which the job holder is responsible and plan for their impact.
6. Provide technical recommendations on suppliers as part of the bidding and tender evaluation process.
Essential skills and experience:
1. You are expected to hold, as a minimum, an HNC (NVQ level 4) (or an equivalent qualification) in an Engineering related discipline and have relevant engineering experience.
2. Extensive networking experience in designing, implementing, and testing complex datacomms networks.
3. Experience in multi vendors preferred (Cisco/HP/Aurba/Juniper/Fortigate/Palo/Checkpoint).
4. Knowledge of troubleshooting complex systems.
5. Industry certification related to this role is desirable, Cisco CCNA/CCNP.
Knowledge of:
1. Network Management Systems.
2. VMWARE.
3. Windows servers.
4. Testing procedures and report writing.
5. Thorough knowledge and understanding of networks and with a keen interest in new and emerging technologies/protocols/trends and industry best practices.
6. Relevant experience of high-integrity real-time systems within large scale, multi-disciplined projects and practical experience of systems engineering testing and integration.
7. Proven ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner, and be able to work proactively, within a defined framework, with a minimum of direct supervision. An initiative-taking approach is essential.
