The opportunity
Due to an increase in projects, our client is currently seeking to employ an experienced Welding Superintendent to drive all welding and pipework control duties.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Supporting the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Team in the Joint Design Office (JDO) and HPC Delivery Directorate in planning and delivering welding and allied activities on the HPC project.
Liaising with contract partners to ensure that they understand and deliver the welding excellence required in the environment of a licensed nuclear construction site.
Ensuring that the day to day welding quality is maintained at a high level and individual welders are supported and encouraged to produce high quality work and have the necessary tools and environment to perform at the highest level.
Reporting to the SME Team Lead and work collaboratively with the Senior Welding Consultant and Welding Consultant in the SME Team on matters pertaining to welding, pipework erection and metallurgical controls such as heat treatment and mitigation of system stresses. You will have the following qualifications & experience
Education to degree level or a proven record of academic knowledge in mechanical and or materials related subject. This could include HND / NVQ level 4 or EWS / EWT / EWE.
Possess excellent organisation and communication skills and be able to write informative, concise and meaningful reports.
Be a time served welder.
Significant experience in welding and erection activities on large projects leading teams of people, in the nuclear or a similarly regulated industry.
Have a sympathetic and observant work presence that gains respect and cooperation of work groups of skilled craftsmen.
Proven ability to engage Senior Management and variety of stakeholders to work in the interest of attaining high quality welding with low defect rates.
Understanding of Quality Management Systems and experience of the application of ISO 9001 standard in a construction, engineering or industrial context.
Ability to contribute to the management of a high performing team that continuously outperforms expectations and objectives.The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
