The Role
We are seeking a Head of Engineering to lead and inspire our Engineering team, ensuring the seamless execution of our technical roadmap. This person will need to collaborate closely with the senior management, Product, Customer Success and Growth teams to ensure a seamless technology delivery. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, particularly in AI, full-stack Javascript, AWS and security, combined with a passion for fostering collaboration and communication across teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical Leadership and Strategy Execution
o Align engineering efforts with the company’s strategic objectives to drive technical excellence.
o Develop and implement technology strategies to support revenue growth, scalability, and market leadership.
o Provide technical insight to ensure our products and services remain innovative and competitive
* Operational Efficiency
o Optimise engineering processes to deliver high-quality solutions on time and within budget.
o Ensure tasks are delivered on time and all stakeholders are kept informed of progress and dependencies
o Identify inefficiencies in technical workflows and implement improvements, leveraging modern tools and technologies, including AI where applicable.
o Establish clear metrics for tracking performance, reliability, and operational efficiency utilising tools including AWS and Datadog
o Ensure successful execution of major projects, including core system upgrades, application delivery, and disaster recovery.
* Security and Compliance
o Maintain compliance with ISO27001, security best practices, vulnerability reports and regulatory requirements.
o Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks to ensure a secure and resilient product.
o Oversee access management and security governance, ensuring robust internal controls.
* Cloud Infrastructure & Vendor Management
o Oversee cloud infrastructure including costs, scaling and reliability.
o Manage vendor relationships for key technology services, ensuring the right tools and services are in place to support the business.
* Team Leadership and Development
o Be confident using Node, Vue and related technologies
o Have experience managing AWS, Fargate, Aurora Postgres and other AWS products and databases
o Lead, inspire, and mentor the Engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
o Attract and retain top engineering talent, managing recruitment, training, and professional development.
o Promote a healthy and inclusive team culture that supports productivity and employee engagement.
o Ensure effective knowledge transfer and succession planning within the team.
* Cross-Departmental Collaboration
o Work closely with Product, Customer Success, and Growth teams to align engineering priorities with business objectives.
o Facilitate effective communication across teams, proactively addressing bottlenecks and performance issues.
o Contribute technical expertise and documentation to support cross-functional initiatives and decision-making.
* Process & Performance Management
o Lead and manage scrums, sprint planning, and performance reviews to drive technical output and continuous improvement.
o Oversee OKR progress reviews and ensure alignment between engineering efforts and company strategy.
o Maintain up-to-date documentation of internal systems, architecture, and operational processes.
o Ensure clear ownership and accountability for team deliverables, technical debt, system performance, and reliability.
Requirements
* Experience
o Proven track record in a senior technical leadership role, ideally within a SaaS or PaaS organisation.
o Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, serverless architecture, and application security.
o Strong foundation in modern web technologies and backend frameworks - Node.js, Vue.js/React, Docker, PostgreSQL, and other related tools
o Experience leading distributed engineering teams and driving operational excellence.
o Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as ISO27001 and experience working with auditors.

o Exceptional technical expertise combined with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
o Strong project management capabilities with a history of delivering projects on time and within budget.
o Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to align engineering goals with wider business objectives.
o Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
o A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
o Passion for innovation and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
