Our client, a large government customer, are seeking a Materials/Manufacturing Engineer to join their team. The role is based in Bristol x3 days/week minimum, with remote working as/when agreed with the delivery team. The role requires SC clearance and candidates must be sole UK nationals. Requirements are scheduled to run until 23/12/2025 (or 240 days) and offer a rate up to £750/day. IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. The rates above represent rate payable to the umbrella co. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS : 22/01/2025 at 15:00 The Role To fulfil this requirement, the AUKUS UK PDO requires specialist support. A requirement has been identified for a Professional L1 workforce substitute Engineer for 12 months, to support the SDA AUKUS PDO with tasking on materials manufacturing standards in general. This is going to be critical going forward in AUKUS delivery. Additionally, the resource must have the skillset to lean in with concast specific work as required. With AUKUS (AUS, UK, US) leadership announcement in March 2023, it was established that the SSN-AUKUS (SSNA) will be based upon the United Kingdom’s next-generation SSN design. The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) will act as the design Authority, responsible for approval of design and manufacture and maintaining the design intent, integrity, and safety of the naval reactor plant. As part of the AUKUS Programme, to ensure that the UK meets the requirement set out by the AUKUS pact and the optimal pathway for the delivery of a Nuclear-Powered Submarine (NPS) capability to the Commonwealth of Australia, the UK must provide support, advice, and information to the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA). This role will work closely with the Naval Authority Technology Group (NATG). This is a trilateral programme and therefore some work outside of normal working hours may be occasionally required. Essential Skills and Experience Materials and/or a manufacturing engineer – specialism in ferrous metals (this bit is critical). Understanding of the production methods of heavy plate (any industry, does not need to be defence). Ingot and concast would be ideal. Understanding of the auditing process and assurance against materials specifications and standards. Experience in the delivery, production and/or reviewing of experimental test plans.
