Purpose
The Head of Global Health Strategy, Performance Management and Business Performance (GHSO) will shape GSK’s Global Health strategy, outlining priority areas and setting objectives and resource allocation in close alignment with the Chief Global Health Officer and the Global Health Leadership Team. The GHSO Head will act as strategic advisor to the Global Health organization and senior management team and assist in facilitating effective decision making. The GHSO Head is responsible for overseeing timely delivery of the agreed GH strategy and operational excellence of the GH organisation, ensuring the greatest impact for people in lower and middle income countries.
Key Responsibilities
STRATEGY SETTING AND DEPLOYMENT
* Managing GH strategic planning, activity prioritisation and the annual objective setting process; ensuring all GH activity is exquisitely connected to GSK’s broader purpose and GH impact ambition with the right cadence and topic selection.
* Leading on strategic projects on critical GH topics on behalf of the CGHO and LT and support decision making on critical GH topics on behalf of CGHO/GHLT, integrating ESG considerations.
* Bringing external insights, challenge and a future focus to GH planning.
PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT & GOVERNANCE
* Oversee all portfolio progress, facilitating data-driven decisions to advance, pause, or terminate projects based on scientific, clinical, and market insights (liaising with R&D for insights).
* Set integrated portfolio strategy, continuously assess and balance the portfolio to ensure a mix of high-risk, high-reward projects and more stable, lower-risk projects, optimizing people allocation and mitigating risks including assessing projects going into commit to study.
* Facilitate strategic selection and prioritization of drug/vaccine development projects to maximize the return on investment and align with long-term goals.
* Oversee measurement of impact and reach of product.
* Drive analytics and impact measurement to support portfolio prioritisation decisions and to ensure data-driven decision making and prioritisation, including for R&D and non R&D projects.
* Monitor GH KPI to track delivery vs commitments and annual objectives.
* Lead external analytics, insight generation and benchmarking.
* Responsible for impact evaluation for external reporting, including GH content for Corporate Annual Report and external benchmarks and indices (including ATMI).
BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AND PROCESS
* Management of business performance operations for the overall GH organisation, with aligned LT planning, processes and governance across all GH activities.
* Run a number of operational activities such as Project portfolio management and Outcome Research (Health Economics and Epi). The GHSO Head will run effective GH governance bodies, working with responsible GHLT members on the preparation of governance decision materials; run efficient processes and meetings and ensure strong interfaces with mainstream GSK governance bodies.
* Ensure GHLT visibility of delivery vs key programmes and identify course correction actions where necessary.
* Coordinate with GH support functions including Finance, Legal, BD, HR and Compliance.
* Oversee a team of 9 people and represent GH to internal and external audiences, and on occasion deputise for the CGHO.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in a business or scientific discipline.
* Experience of leading cross functional teams.
* Experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry with knowledge of access, government affairs, project management and R&D.
* Experience of working in a top tier consultancy looking at strategy and business performance.
* Experience of working with senior stakeholders, with demonstrated personal impact and ability to understand business requirements.
* Experience of delivering projects at an enterprise level.
* Experience in the following: strategy development & deployment, analytics and portfolio management, risk management, R&D operations, charitable partnerships, change management.
Preferred Qualifications
* PhD or MBA.
* Independently plan, design & execute activities that enable the CGHO and GH LT to focus on strategic initiatives and project-facing activities that have the most impact.
* Work effectively in a matrix environment, influence and collaborate across functions and across-business, with representatives with different backgrounds and organizational levels.
* Bring expertise in portfolio management, operational planning, resource planning and performance management.
* Bring external insights into the company.
* Build strong internal links with key GSK stakeholders, including senior management in R&D, Commercial/R&D, ESG management and Investor Relations.
* Strong analytical skills, communication, networking and influencing skills.
* Handle data analytics and bring up most relevant insights for decision making.
* Bring excellent judgment to a constantly changing set of challenges and opportunities.
* Set long-term goals and translate these objectives into smaller steps.
* Comfortable with ambiguity and adept at managing a rapidly changing environment to adapt plans and priorities to address new challenges.
* Ability to generate ideas and opportunities and turn them into successful results.
