Optimal Accountancy Job Description: Accounts Senior
Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Overview:
We are an accountancy practice based in South Shields seeking an experienced Accounts Senior to join our team. This role involves leading a small team, ensuring high-quality service delivery across key accounting functions, and reporting directly to firm partners. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of HMRC guidelines, strong organizational skills, and experience mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and supervise a small team, including organizing workloads and ensuring deadlines are met.
2. Oversee and manage payroll, pensions, CIS, VAT, and annual accounts processes.
3. Report directly to firm partners, providing updates on team performance and project statuses.
4. Handle HMRC registrations and ensure compliance with HMRC guidelines.
5. Supervise and review the work of team members, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
6. Act as a mentor for junior staff, supporting their development and training.
7. Liaise professionally with clients to provide exceptional service and address inquiries.
Required Skills and Experience:
1. Extensive experience with Sage Accounts and Sage Payroll.
2. Working knowledge of other accounting software i.e. QuickBooks & Xero.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions.
4. Strong understanding of HMRC guidelines and regulations.
5. Experience managing and leading a team in an accounting environment.
Qualifications:
1. Qualified by experience, or
2. AAT, ACA/ACCA qualified, or currently working towards these qualifications.
