Director (Data Centres and Mission Critical)

Due to our continued growth in the Data Centre and Mission Critical sector, a fantastic career opportunity has arisen for a creative and driven Director Mechanical Engineer to join a leading MEP Consultancy. You will form part of the Sector Leadership team and be responsible for managing and directing some of our key projects. The role will include meeting with Clients, managing multidisciplinary design teams, providing technical leadership and guidance and delivering successful projects from inception to completion.

The role
As a Director you will be responsible for supporting and delivering designs for Mission Critical/Data Centre sector. Hoare Lea often act as lead consultant within this sector and you will work and lead multidisciplinary teams of Engineers, Architects, Structural / Civils Engineers and support staff delivering a consistent high-quality service for clients. This will ensure that repeat and new business opportunities are developed, and profitability is achieved. The role is instrumental in helping to continue to grow and develop a team of technically competent engineers within this high performing sector, as well as seeking new opportunities to develop the business.
You will be thinking long term; establishing, planning and implementing the strategy for delivering future work. You'll also be accountable for large-scale/complex and high-risk projects, setting out expectations, and empowering others to manage and deliver projects, ensuring client needs are met.
You will be exerting a positive influence on the performance of your business area, leading by example and inspiring others to perform at their best.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing Clients and encourage repeat business opportunities.
* Key role being responsible for leading large scale complex projects UK and Internationally.
* Working with and refining strict governance processes associated with Mission Critical projects.
* Support other Directors in developing client relationships in new or existing business sectors.
* Broaden and build upon the services offered within your area of responsibility or expertise.
* Develop leadership and support relevant directors in strategic direction of the business.
* Lead bid preparation and coordinate tender activities with other disciplines both internally and externally.
* Lead, coordinate and agree appointments in conjunction with Risk Management Group.
* Plan, lead and manage medium/large scale projects within the office.
* Accountable for communicating, coordinating and managing resources to ensure successful delivery of projects.
* Accountable to the Client and Firm for the successful delivery of all projects within your business area.
* Authors complex documents and oversees and reviews documentation authored by others.
* Accountable for achieving financial targets within your area of the business or projects.
* Be accountable for the financial management, invoicing, debtor chasing, fee variations and final account settlement on projects under your direction.
* Facilitate and introduce new work stream activities within your area of the business to improve efficiency and motivation within the teams.
* Provide guidance and technical support and assistance to engineering staff at all levels to ensure that the most appropriate design solutions are provided.
* Provide expert technical support as part of project joint ventures within the firm.
* Contribute to the work of the Technical Group.
* To promote and enable a culture of innovation and ideas generation within the business area.
* To provide a firm wide contribution within your area of technical expertise.
* Lead by example, role model positive behaviours and actively influence others to do the same.
* Input to the recruitment process for the business area and carry out interviews and assist in the selection process of suitable candidates at all levels.
* Support the training coordinators and develop/oversee staff training requirements for the business area.
* Support the Directors in the overall development of the business area.
What we are looking for
* Ability to deal with difficult situations in a non-adversarial manner.
* Qualified and recognised in industry with Incorporated / Chartered status.
* Have recognised Project Management qualifications (Prince II or similar).
* Strong technical knowledge in the primary area of expertise and work to relevant and applicable regulations, design guides, etc.
* Good understanding of other disciplines.
* IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages.
* Excellent written and spoken English skills.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills to effectively work to timescales and deadlines.
* Extensive relevant industry experience.
* Commitment to effectively deliver to demanding timescales.
* Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
* Works under own initiative and under increased pressure.
* Provide a lead role in an integrated project design team with other construction professionals.
