Description Senior Commercial Manager Southern Water Strategic Delivery Partner AMP8 Brighton An exciting opportunity has come up in Brighton for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join Galliford Try’s team in the Water division to deliver circa £80m to £100m of projects per annum under the Southern Water Strategic Delivery Wastewater Framework Lot 2. Role Overview: The successful candidate will be highly proactive, dynamic and drive the commercial performance of the Operating Unit ensuring the budgeted financial goals are achieved as set out by the business, ensuring robust risk management principles are instilled, development of the commercial team with a keen attention to detail in cost control, contract/change management and an unwavering focus on maintaining a cash positive position. Working closely with the Operational Leads to ensure the correct project controls are in place across all disciplines and reporting regularly to the Regional Commercial Director and Regional Operational Director. The successful candidate will also be required to actively participate in pre-construction and tendering activities by reviewing prices and protecting the business by identifying onerous terms in contracts and to have close management of the regional Overheads. Overseeing material and subcontract procurement and ensuring the correct governance is applied. Ensuring that monthly CVR’s and commercial reports are accurately reported to the required deadlines. Key Responsibilities: Implement regional business strategy Work closely with Directors in the commercial management of the business. Constantly monitor commercial viability of schemes throughout the development stage. Contribute in defining and developing procurement strategy. Implement and manage effective placement of subcontractor orders. Ensure monitoring systems are in place to manage the financial aspects of a number of projects. Control the scheduling and purchasing of materials. Applying the required governance in the production of Subcontract documentation including negotiation of terms and conditions, prices, and programme. Ensuring the teams are efficient in management of subcontract works packages including, interim assessments of the amount due and subsequent change management. Ensure proactive approach by the commercial team in all commercial notices, to both the Client and Subcontractors, as required by the form of contract. Manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations. Produce, submit, and agree monthly applications, to the Client, in accordance with the form of contract. Contribute to development budgets. Review and monitor costs on a continuing basis Prepare monthly commercial reports for the board within set deadlines (CVR’s, Secured/Unsecured Forecast, Cash/WIP), also highlighting any issues/risks. Management and motivation of Commercial Operations Ensure that an effective commercial team structure is in place to deliver business unit strategy. Ability to understand the key drivers for effective staff motivation. Must have the sufficient skills to identify staff weaknesses and implement change where necessary. Ensure regular performance reviews take place within the Team. As part of management team, responsible for health and safety, risk management and customer care issues within the business. Take responsibility for achieving business targets including cash, profit, return on capital and sales. Undertake any other duties as required by the Directors Actively participate in pre-construction and tender activities in price verification, identifying and mitigating onerous terms and conditions Developing and managing customer/stakeholder relationships for repeat business opportunities/tenders Maintain a positive working relationship with the senior leadership team, peers and teams to debate, develop and implement initiatives and change management protocols Ability to lead and empower teams, at varying levels, including any development and retention challenges Interpreting core policies and ensuring procedures are adhered to for current legislation, legal and contractual requirements Collaboration with central service teams for core processes, people management and development Apply the principles of ‘Doing the right thing’ in maximising value and profit. Responsible for key decision relating to commercial matters alongside the senior operational team. Management of teams and the development of all commercial staff to ensure they reach their potential and support their wellbeing. Experience and Qualifications Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract, in particular the NEC3/4 suite of Contracts. Strong IT skills including Excel, Word & Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Asite, Oracle). Excellent stakeholder management and communication capabilities at all levels. Solid knowledge of commercial management principles in the construction processes. First class time and outcome management skills Strong leadership and management expertise proven track record of developing managers and individuals. Track record of commercially managing successful business streams Track record of negotiation and final account settlement. Advanced problem-solving skills. Professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS, ideally Incorporated member, working towards full membership (Desirable). Relevant degree and/or experience of working in a relevant Commercial environment. Experience of managing a variety of large single and multiple smaller schemes. CSCS appropriate. Expertise with Microsoft Office suite, e.g. Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
