This role can be based at one of our offices in Barnstaple, Tiverton, or Amesbury, with an element of travel required.

Main duties of the role:
* Lead and manage construction projects from a commercial and cost perspective, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivery on time, within budget, and to the required standard.
* Act as the primary commercial point of contact for projects, liaising with clients to clarify tender requirements, negotiate contract terms, and address project challenges.
* Oversee financial planning, including forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting, while evaluating labour, material, and time requirements to calculate total project costs.
* Prepare and submit detailed tenders within deadlines, sourcing competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors and mitigating potential risks.
* Collaborate with project managers, surveyors, and operational teams to address commercial challenges and optimise project performance.
* Implement and maintain robust estimating procedures and systems to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with business goals.
* Stay updated on market trends, pricing, and construction methods to inform cost estimates and strategic decision-making.
* Provide regular updates to senior leadership and clients, forecasting future opportunities, analysing project performance, and supporting the Commercial Manager in achieving business objectives.
As a member of the Senior Management Team:
* Collaborate with the Board of Directors to shape and implement the Business Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and effective execution within departments.
* Set clear, measurable goals for teams, driving accountability and delivering key objectives on time and within budget.
* Drive cross-functional collaboration and optimise departmental resources to support business initiatives and maximise performance.
* Provide regular performance updates to the Board, showcasing progress against KPIs and offering strategic insights.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Essential:
* Proven experience (3+ years) as an Estimator, preferably within the construction industry and with exposure to commercial and MOD contracts - familiarity with MOD procurement processes and contract frameworks is advantageous.
* Proficient in using industry-standard estimation software and tools.
* Familiarity with construction contracts, legislation, and industry standards.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates concurrently.
* Excellent understanding of construction methods, materials, and labour requirements.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Desirable:
* Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is advantageous
