Job Overview
We wish to hire a dedicated and qualified School Student Counsellor (m/f/d) to join our dynamic educational institution as of August 1, 2025.
Applicants must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in psychology, counselling, social work, or education (post-graduate qualifications preferred). Applicants must also have an academic and practical understanding of developmental psychology and behaviour management. Experience working with adolescents in a therapeutic, community support, or educational setting is advantageous.
We are particularly looking for Counsellors who:
* Hold a license as a psychotherapist/psychologist, or as a Child and Youth Worker
* Have teaching experience in elementary and secondary school
* Have experience working with special needs children or as a learning strategist
* Have training in Suicide Prevention
* Have training or certification in approaches such as play therapy or cognitive behaviour therapy for children
The Student Counsellor provides social, emotional, and learning support to children between the ages of 9 and 15. Working in collaboration with teachers, parents, and administrators the counsellor directly supports each child’s well-being and academic potential development.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Meeting with individuals and small groups of students to develop customized learning strategies and study skills
* Designing and delivering professional development workshops to teachers and parents
* Acting as a resource for teachers seeking advice on how to manage student behaviours and concerns
* Case conferencing with teachers to manage behaviours and to support students’ well-being
* Identifying when it is necessary to involve parents and/or teachers in the care and support of a student
* Identifying when it is necessary to refer a child to a mental health professional in the community
* Operating with a high level of discretion and uses exceptional judgement when including others in the support and management of student issues and conduct
* Forging collaborative and trusting relationship with teachers, administrator and parents
* Developing a referral network within the local community of mental health professionals
* Working with ISR Parent Network to offer practical workshops to parents
* Writing informative and practical articles and materials for parents and teachers
* Consulting the school nurse on relevant cases and issues
* Leading the Elementary and Secondary School Advising Program and collaborating with teachers to monitor the progress of the program on a regular basis
* Teaching Advising when necessary
* Providing periodic classroom substitution during teacher absences
