The University of Brighton is seeking an Academic Engagement Librarian to support learning and teaching at our Moulsecoomb campus. Based in our Aldrich Library, your excellent customer service skills will be key to building strong working relationships with academics and students, ensuring that library resources and services continue to meet the needs of our diverse university community.
This opportunity comes at an exciting time: in 2024, Libraries became a stand-alone department and launched a new operational model and 5-year strategy. Working as part of a cross-site team of Academic Engagement Librarians, you will contribute to the work of the overall strategy with a particular focus on Research Engagement.
Responsibilities:
1. Line managing a team of Assistant Librarians.
2. Leading and motivating staff across a varied and diverse workload in a collaborative and supportive environment.
3. Developing library academic skills teaching by designing and delivering creative, engaging, and inclusive teaching sessions.
4. Managing a resources budget, alongside the Assistant Librarians in Academic Engagement.
5. Promoting the use of discovery services to academics and students to ensure that resources are organised and used to their full potential.
6. Taking an active role in developing the library collection in line with the Collection Development and Management Policy to ensure that students have access to relevant and credible information resources.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Be a graduate with a professional qualification in library or information science (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate experience of people management.
2. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise conflicting demands.
3. Experience in interpreting more complex information to give appropriate advice and assistance to students and staff from across the institution.
This is a full-time post which may include some evening and weekend working for which appropriate enhancements will be paid.
In return, the university offers a wide range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, annual leave starting at 25 days a year plus additional leave over the festive period. Job sharers are welcome to apply.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact the Head of Library Academic Engagement, Kim Donovan at K.Donovan2@brighton.ac.uk or the University Librarian, Liz Davey at l.davey@brighton.ac.uk.
The University is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for all staff regardless of age, disability, family or caring responsibilities, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief (including non-belief), sex, and sexual orientation. We embrace equality and diversity in our working, learning, research, and teaching environment and are committed to maintaining a supportive and inclusive community. We particularly encourage applicants from Minority Ethnic backgrounds because the University is under-represented by Minority Ethnic staff.
For the vast majority of our roles, we operate an agile working system with time split between working on campus and at the employee's home. It is the University's expectation that home working will take place within the UK.
