Share Skipton is a small, community-based, volunteer-led, Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a vision to create a more sharing and sustainable Skipton by:
1. establishing and running a library of things, which lends items to our communities at an affordable cost.
2. establishing and running initiatives to share, repair and create, such as repair cafes.
3. encouraging and enabling our communities to share resources, reduce waste, repair and reuse more, and promoting a circular economy.
We are now looking to appoint a part-time Volunteer Coordinator. They will play a crucial role in ensuring the library and repair cafes run smoothly, and will enable Share Skipton to become more sustainable and resilient by supporting the effective recruitment, training, scheduling, and support of our volunteers. They will help create a positive and inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued and empowered to contribute to our mission.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Volunteer Recruitment:
a) Develop and implement strategies to recruit new volunteers, with the aim of recruiting a diverse, inclusive volunteer team.
b) Develop and produce marketing and communication materials to support recruitment, including social media.
c) Work with partner organisations to support recruitment.
d) Interview potential volunteers and take up references.
2. Training, Development and Support:
a) Organise and deliver volunteer induction.
b) Provide initial and ongoing training, ensuring volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities.
c) Be on site during library and repair café opening hours to provide support to volunteers.
d) Identify opportunities for volunteer skill development and organise/deliver relevant workshops or sessions.
e) Develop and implement strategies to receive volunteer feedback, taking follow-up action where required.
3. Scheduling and Communication:
a) Create and manage volunteer schedules to ensure adequate staffing during library opening hours, repair cafes, and other events.
b) Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, providing regular updates and addressing any questions or concerns.
c) Manage and support the volunteer WhatsApp groups and produce any other relevant communications, e.g. volunteer newsletter.
4. Volunteer Engagement and Retention:
a) Foster a positive, happy, supportive and inclusive environment, recognising and celebrating volunteer contributions.
b) Organise team-building activities and appreciation events.
5. Administrative Duties:
a) Maintain accurate volunteer records.
b) Comply with the Share Skipton Volunteer Policy, GDPR/data protection requirements, and all other relevant policies and procedures.
c) Provide regular reports to the Project Coordinator/trustees on volunteer activities and challenges, using an agreed set of performance indicators.
6. Operating Safely:
a) Ensure all volunteers understand and follow health and safety procedures, and follow other relevant policies, including safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and data protection.
7. Personal Professional Development:
a) Undertake relevant training and development to build skills, knowledge, and connect with relevant professional networks.
8. Other:
a) Carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
b) Have fun whilst making a real difference.

Required knowledge, skills and experience may have been gained from paid or voluntary work.
Key terms and conditions:
Term: 1 year contract initially – further term subject to funding
Working Hours: 15 hours per week. Will normally need to be in the library of things during opening hours, which are currently Tuesdays 4-6, Thursdays 10-12 and Saturdays 10-1.
Salary and benefits:
• £10,920 pa (£14 per hour - £26,936 pa pro rata)
• 3% employer’s pension contribution
• Statutory holiday and sick pay
• Free membership of the library of things
Location: 48 Newmarket Street, Skipton, with the option to work some hours from home by agreement.
