Coleg Sir Gâr & Coleg Ceredigion has an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Assistant to join the team, based at our Graig Campus in Llanelli. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience of health and safety within an educational institution.
The successful applicant will join our estates department, who as a department, are responsible for reactive and planned maintenance of College buildings, large capital projects, minor works, legislative compliance, environmental management, estates data, Catering, Campus Offices, Transport, grounds maintenance and Health and Safety compliance. The post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a pro-active and innovative person to be part of the Estates Department of Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion.
What you will be doing
The successful applicant will support the Health and Safety Manager, and wider estates team, to promote a safe and healthy learning environment for our learners, staff, and visitors. You will assist in ensuring The College remains compliant with all regulatory requirements and all risks minimised.
You will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and training. This includes conducting risk assessments, inspections, and audits; delivering inductions and training sessions; and ensuring compliance with legislation and standards. You'll assist with incident investigations, emergency preparedness, and serve as a point of contact for health and safety concerns. Collaboration with staff, students, and external agencies is essential, as is maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to continuous safety improvement.
What you will need
To be successful, you will need a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Occupational health and safety or environmental health). NEBOSH, IOSH, or any other equivalent health and safety certificates are desirable, but not essential.
Whilst previous experience within a health and safety role is not essential, you will be expected to have a good knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and regulations. In addition, you will need to be competent in a range of IT systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
You will need excellent analytical and report writing skills, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to health and safety. You will be handling confidential information as part of the role, so demonstrating strict confidentiality and being able to work with staff at all levels will be essential.
