About the College/Department
As a Civic University, the Civic team lead on a wide range of projects and initiatives that are making a real difference to local communities - opening doors to opportunities, raising aspirations and helping to transform lives. We have a series of flagship projects and community engagement opportunities which run exciting activities all year round, including the National Saturday Club: Society and Change, the Social Higher Education Depot (S.H.E.D) and newly-launched Civic Curiosity E-Bikes.
About the role
We are recruiting a Club Manager to run our free-to-attend club aimed at young people aged 13 - 16. The club takes place on a Saturday morning, typically 10-1pm. The club provides a safe, fun space for young people to learn new skills, discover talents and meet new people. They can also find out more about further education, higher education and rewarding careers. The University of Derby Saturday Club mornings are for young people from Derby and Derbyshire of all abilities who have an interest in creative and artistic practice.
We are running the subject strand Society and Change and are looking for a talented individual to work with our club partners and key stakeholders to help design and deliver the club this academic year.
This role is for 15 hours per week and would typically require one day a week on site and some hybrid working hours. Delivery of the Saturday morning club could take place at any of our partner delivery locations.
The anticipated interview date will be 10th December 2024.
About You
As a Club Manager, you would play a key role in guiding and inspiring young people through their creative journey. This role involves facilitating engaging weekly club sessions and overseeing special events, including a masterclass, an exhibition showcasing the club's work, and a certificate award ceremony held in July at Somerset House in London. These events are part of the National Saturday Club's annual Summer Show, which celebrates the accomplishments of young creators from across the UK.
You would bring expertise and passion to help participants explore their creativity, broaden their perspectives, and develop a sense of belonging and purpose within their communities. The position requires creating an inclusive, safe, and enjoyable environment where young people of diverse ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds feel encouraged and supported. Furthermore, you would liaise with stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery, managing resources effectively and fostering collaboration to enhance the club’s learning experience.
In addition, a strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures is essential to protect and nurture the wellbeing of all participants, ensuring they can freely express themselves and engage in meaningful, enriching activities.
Principal accountabilities
* Be solely responsible for the management and delivery of the Saturday Club Derby.
* Induct, supervise, and advise all stakeholders, including learners, teaching and research staff, and external customers on the operation of the club and relevant club processes.
* Develop an innovative scheme of work for the academic year, deciding upon the modules and projects to be taught.
* Be responsible for identifying, booking, and supervising all guest speakers and technicians required during the club programme.
* Train and manage all student ambassadors who facilitate sessions on each Saturday.
* Liaise constantly with the Communications teams at University of Derby, with local partners and National Saturday Club to help promote the club in schools, process club applications, and communicate regularly throughout the programme year.
* Be solely responsible for communication and the handling of enquiries and complaints from the club members, their parents/carers, and the schools.
* Work cohesively with colleagues from the University of Derby and with local partners of the Derby Saturday Club: Society and Change.
* Work cohesively with colleagues from the National Saturday Club Head office, to ensure that the local club in Derby is organised professionally and in conjunction with the department.
* Manage all Safeguarding and Health and Safety of the club members and internal and external stakeholders.
* Collaborate with the National Saturday Club to organise visits, to follow their instructions and adhere to our contract.
* Organise and manage two off-campus visits to showcase work of attendees and develop their skills and experience.
* Manage the participation of the Saturday Club from Derby’s exhibition and award ceremony at Somerset House, London.
* Manage a small budget, to buy materials, refreshments, and to organise and fund the off-campus visits travel/accommodation/hospitality.
* To attend ‘Tutors Training/Meetings’ provided by the Saturday Club Trust, for continued professional development.
* Undertake Risk Assessments of all equipment, processes and procedures associated with the role.
* Ensure that club members are trained or supervised in the use of equipment and related techniques.
* In accordance with Safeguarding procedures, to deal with any disclosures, concerns, or incidents in an appropriate and empathetic manner.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
* Level 3 qualification or equivalent professional experience
* Safeguarding training and First Aid qualification or willingness to work towards.
Experience
* Experience in an office environment.
* Experience of working with children in an education or enrichment setting.
* Experience and understanding of the further education/education sector.
* Experience of working with mixed ages, cultures, and abilities.
* Experience of overseeing / monitoring a budget and building costings for events.
* Experience of implementing procedures and systems developments.
* Demonstrable experience of supporting the administration of multiple projects, comprising of different activities.
* Experience of working and liaising with stakeholders in respect of project resources and delivery.
* Proven experience in successfully supporting other staff to deliver effectively.
* Experience of building and maintaining excellent working relationships with stakeholders.
Skills, knowledge & abilities
* Able to interact positively with young people and adults.
* Ability to use IT to a high level of competence, including MS Office applications.
* Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures

* Degree in youth work or related discipline.
* Youth coaching, outdoor instruction and any other relevant vocational coaching or instructing qualification.
