The successful candidate must be:
* A Biomedical Scientist registered with the HCPC with specialist post-qualification experience and suitable additional qualifications as shown within the person specification.
with excellent written and verbal skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to Haematology laboratory practice and a natural focus on quality, patient safety, and service delivery. You will provide a vital source of knowledge and support to staff, the department, and the wider Blood Sciences Laboratory Team. You will be joining a friendly, supportive, well-established department. You will be required to be comfortable working autonomously as well as part of a team. You will work as part of the Transfusion laboratory, which sits within the Blood Sciences Department. It will be necessary to liaise with clinical staff within the laboratory and across the Trust and also be involved in teaching, mentoring, and assessing staff of various grades within the department; you must be flexible and have the ability to work across all CHFT sites.

Main duties of the job
The right candidate will be an excellent and confident communicator with strong leadership skills, will be fully aware of the current issues pertinent to the Transfusion department. This will enable you to contribute effectively to developing policies, audit practice, and lead the department’s quality management process.
You will be a keen, well-organised, and motivated individual capable of delivering training and education to all levels of staff.
This is a challenging post and we are looking to appoint someone who can perform the necessary tasks with immediate effect.
To apply, you must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with extensive post-registration experience, a relevant MSc, Higher Specialist Diploma, or equivalent, and evidence of professional development within a blood sciences discipline. (Some flexibility on qualifications due to secondment only, in order to gain valuable experience within the senior Biomedical Scientist role, must complete the higher specialist diploma within the secondment period).

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* HCPC Registration
* Relevant degree in Biomedical Science
* Higher Specialist Portfolio in Haematology or Master’s degree in relevant discipline or Fellowship status of the Institute or equivalent knowledge and experience
* Certificate in Healthcare Management or equivalent, Quality Qualification and Training Qualification
* IBMS membership or member of a professional body CPD scheme
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Significant recent experience in the National Health Service or equivalent healthcare organisation.
* Significant recent experience as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (e.g., 3 years as a specialist scientist)
* Significant recent experience in leadership, supervision, and training of MLA’s / AP’s, Trainee BMS’s, and BMS staff.
* Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in continued professional development and create own personal development plan.
* Extensive post-registration experience in Haematology
* Experience of working as part of a team
* Trained in all areas of the Haematology pathology department
* Knowledge of the specimen pathways for all samples, including reference laboratory tests.
* Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in laboratory practice in Haematology
* Significant theoretical and practical knowledge of Blood Cell Morphology (Digital)
* Significant theoretical and practical knowledge of coagulation protocols
* Knowledge of physiology and pathology of disease associated with the Haematology discipline.
* Ability to run, maintain, and fault-find on laboratory equipment.
* Ability to problem solve.
* Ability to work under pressure and plan and manage workload.
* Member of a professional body CPD scheme.
* Experience of stock control systems
* Experience of budgets.
* Full involvement in laboratory and clinical audit.

You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
