Governor and Membership Engagement Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Corporate Governance team who are a highly motivated and enthusiastic team as the Governor and Membership Engagement Officer.
To work with the Trust Secretary and Deputy Trust Secretary to support the Trust's Governors and Members to fulfil their general duties.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and experience in, organising public/patient/stakeholder engagement, events management, meetings, communications and public relations techniques, approaches and procedures.

Main duties of the job
* To support the Trust Secretary and Deputy Trust Secretary to ensure that the Council of Governors and their associated Working Groups are properly constituted, operated and supported.
* To support the Trust Secretary with the development and delivery of a Governor and Member Engagement Strategy, and to support the Trust's Governors and Members to fulfil their general duties as defined in the Trust's Constitution.
* To provide a high quality, effective and efficient administrative service to the Trust's Governors, Members and potential Members.
* To work with the Trust Secretary and the Deputy Trust Secretary to ensure that effective relationships between the Board of Directors, Council of Governors and Trust's membership are maintained.
* To support the Trust Secretary with delivery of the overarching corporate governance service provision for Governors and Members to ensure compliance with the Trust's regulatory framework.
* To provide training and education on the role of Trust Governors and Members where required.
* To prepare reports for Council of Governors meetings and Governor Working Groups.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month's pay.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* Degree level or equivalent relevant work experience/qualifications.
* Specialist qualification or CPD in public relations or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of public/patient/stakeholder engagement, events management, communications and public relations techniques, approaches and procedures.
* Provision of high-quality Board level administrative support, including high quality minute-taking at corporate meetings.
* Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels both within and outside an organisation.
* Organising Council of Governor meetings and events and the associated logistics.
* Organising Membership events and the associated logistics.
* Understanding of corporate governance.
* Experience of communicating with different audiences and different backgrounds and communicating sensitive issues and complex information in appropriate ways.
* Experience of delivering engagement and involvement related projects.
* Experience of organising and facilitating meetings, events, PR activities/campaigns.
* Secretarial/administrative experience in the NHS within clinical and/or corporate services.
* Communications/marketing experience, including social media.
* Developing and delivering development and improvement programmes.
* Working with Governors and Members or elected representatives e.g. councillors.
* Understanding of the NHS and the way it works.
* Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation.
* Knowledge of Equality & Diversity regulations.
Skills & Abilities
* Establishing and maintaining good stakeholder relationships (internal and external).
* Understanding of digital communication methods, including electronic and social media.
* IT literate across Microsoft Suite including spreadsheets (Excel).
* Ability to develop personal credibility with managers.
