The appointee will have equity with the other surgeons in the department in terms of the allocations of sessions. On-call for Thoracic Surgery is a 1 in 7 rota at present (5% frequency payment) with Category A availability. For full-time appointees the job plan as described will accrue 10 PAs (8.5 DCC, 1. 5SPA) of payments. It will be re-negotiated within 3 months after appointment, with the option to increasing the work of the appointee to 11.5 PAs, if the work is required by the Trust. Again equity of working with the current consultants will be assured. When the appointee is off-site, cover for the care of patients at LHCH will be provided by colleagues. Full mentorship will be provided to the successful candidate. The successful candidate will have full secretarial support, a personal computer (training available if required) and office accommodation in line with other consultants in the unit. All consultants in the Trust are expected to provide a significant commitment to the training of middle grade and Tier 1 surgeons, and also to research and audit when this is reflected in their job plan. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports surgeons going through the revalidation process. All consultants undergo an annual job plan review.
