An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Principal Teacher of Social Subjects to join our Secondary Extended Leadership Team and to lead our Social Subjects Faculty.
\n
This a full-time, permanent post to start from August 2025.
\n
The Faculty of Social Subjects includes Geography, History, Modern Studies and Religious Education and comprises a team of six teachers, including the Principal Teacher.
\n
The role will be working with Secondary pupils across BGE to Senior Phase.
\n
As part of this post you will have a whole school skills remit.
\n
About the School

The Community School of Auchterarder is an all-through school, comprising Nursery, Primary and Secondary departments serving the community of Auchterarder and surrounding district.
\n
We have a roll of approximately 1,100 children and young people across all three sectors.
\n
The school is situated in a rural location, approximately 14 miles south of Perth with good road networks to the rest of Perthshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the central belt.
\n
Our Associated Primary Schools are Aberuthven, Blackford and Dunning.
\n

Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for a Principal Teacher who:
\n
\n
* Is committed to the highest standards and expectations in all aspects of school life.
\n
* Demonstrates sound judgement and decision making and has the ability to prioritise effectively, to delegate and involve colleagues in decision making.
\n
* Is skilled in influencing and engaging.
\n
* Can lead others and who can exercise good judgement regarding the management of both change and continuity.
\n
* Has a proven track record and excellent pedagogical knowledge of learning and teaching.
\n
* Has the ability to raise the profile of our Social Subjects Faculty across the school and beyond, with a vision and ability for strategic thinking.
\n
\n
As the successful candidate, you must demonstrate the ability to motivate and engage with young people and show that you fully understand the values and principles of a Curriculum for Excellence and the Senior Phase.
\n
The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of pedagogies that engage learners.
\n
The successful candidate will take account of the needs of all learners in their classrooms and ensure inclusive practice that leads to positive outcomes for learners.
\n
An ability to analyse data to ensure that outcomes for young people are the best they possibly can be, will be required.
\n
You will have high aspirations for learners, good communication skills with parents/carers and respectful relationships. The successful applicant will also be skilled in positive behaviour management techniques including restorative approaches.

GTCS registration is required.
