Receptionist - Job Description
Job Title: Receptionist
Responsible to: Reception Manager
Responsible for: N/A
Job Purpose: To ensure that the reception area of the Practice runs smoothly, providing a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses, and other members of the Practice team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Telephone Duties
1. Making appointments
2. Taking requests for prescriptions from housebound patients
3. Giving out results
4. Ambulance transport bookings for on the day service
5. Home visit requests
6. Dealing with general enquiries and complaints
7. Contacting other providers
Reception Duties
1. Register new patients and temporary residents when required
2. Greet and direct patients and visitors
3. Making appointments
4. Handing out prescriptions
5. Ensuring outstanding queries are explained and handed over to the next shift, as necessary
6. Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery
7. Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services
8. Deal with general enquiries and complaints
Filing
1. Filing and retrieving paperwork as requested (e.g., Lloyd George envelopes)
Prescriptions
1. Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions
2. Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols
3. Dealing with queries relating to prescriptions
General
1. Input and extract information from Practice computer system
2. Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
3. General housekeeping (e.g., keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)
4. Any other reasonable duties as necessary
5. Observe Confidentiality policy and guidelines at all times
6. Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
7. Have an overview of admin tasks (e.g., cytology admin, recalls)
