* The security team provide a comprehensive car park service to the Hospital in all weathers. They have considerable contact with staff, visitors, members of the public and contractors. The Security Officer is a front-line member of staff who assists in providing this essential service, in what can be, difficult and stressful conditions.

Main duties of the job
* To undertake all portering tasks, as requested by help desk controller, supervisors, and managers.
* To undertake all urgent adhoc and scheduled tasks using the correct equipment within the required response times and in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
* To respond to emergency calls e.g. cardiac arrest, fire, lift release etc in accordance with Trust procedures.
* To maintain good hygiene practices in the tasks performed as per infection control procedures.
* To observe Health & Safety regulations at all times.
* To attend staff induction and training and an annual appraisal interview.
* To ensure that service user complaints referred to Supervisor / Portering Manager.
* To ensure the transportation equipment is kept clean and in working order, and to report any defects to the Supervisor / Manager to be rectified as quickly as possible.
* To transport patients as per Departmental and Trust procedures, with due regard to their dignity and respect.
* To maintain a smart appearance at all times, wearing the allocated uniform, including safety clothing footwear and gloves as provided at all times when on duty. To report to Supervisor / Manager if and when any of these items become damaged.
* To move deceased patients to the Mortuary from wards and to prepare deceased patients for viewing out of hours as and when required.
* To undertake duties in a courteous, sympathetic manner with due regard to privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Communication: Respond to all work requests promptly and efficiently, liaising with ward and department staff. Make sure effective communication is maintained within the Portering team and between colleagues, patients and visitors. Staff, patients and visitors who require assistance receive it in an appropriate and courteous manner. Report any defects in equipment or fabrication following correct procedures. To undertake duties in a courteous and helpful manner referring verbal complaints to the Chargehand and Portering Manager.
* Analytical and Planning: Ensure that all ad-hoc work, e.g., moving furniture, equipment, etc is carried out following the Trust manual handling procedures. Attend all training sessions as required. Transporting patients to and from wards and departments. Assisting staff in patient transfer from beds, trolleys and wheelchairs whilst ensuring that their comfort and dignity are maintained. All movement must be in accordance with Trust moving and handling policy. Maintain an awareness of appropriate Trust and local policies and procedures and ensure that they are adhered to including an awareness of the implication of the Health and Safety at Work Act and assist in its implementation regarding patients, visitors and staff.
* Clinical Duties: Transportation of patients by wheelchair, patient trolley or bed, internally and externally around the site. A nurse escort is provided if medical condition warrants e.g. on oxygen, iv drip.
* Policy and Service Development: Appropriate response to an incident or major incident in accordance with patient priority and Trust policy. Appropriate documents collected and/or completed and evidence collected. This will cover, patient notes, linen deliveries (out of hours), pharmacy rounds, specimen collection and deliveries. Maintain an awareness of appropriate Trust and local policies and procedures and ensure that they are adhered to including an awareness of the implication of the Health and Safety at Work Act and assist in its implementation regarding patients, visitors and staff. To comply with all Trusts Policies and Procedures including Health and safety and attend training sessions as prescribed or agreed through staff appraisals.
* Financial and Physical Resources: Responsible for safe delivery of goods (clinical and non clinical) and for checking the safety of transportation equipment before use including patient equipment, gas trolleys etc.
* Effort, Skills and Working: Physical Skills: Must be physically fit and able to move patients and goods in line with Trust policies and procedures. Physical Effort: Must be able to walk 10 plus miles per shift. Mental Effort: Be able to adapt to changing situations and requirements depending on the task at hand. Emotional Effort: Can deal with changing requests and situations within the Hospital. Furthermore, due to the activity within the trust, staff will be dealing with deceased patients.
