1:1 Teaching Assistant – PRU School – Knowsley
A PRU school in Knowsley is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 4 pupil on a full-time basis. This role requires an educator who is either proficient in British Sign Language (BSL) or open to learning it to effectively communicate and build a strong rapport with the student.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in alternative provisions, PRUs, or SEN settings and understand the importance of patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach. The student requires consistency and a supportive presence, so the right person will be calm, empathetic, and adaptable, with the ability to foster a trusting relationship. Strong behavior management skills and the ability to de-escalate situations effectively are essential.
Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 tailored support to a Key Stage 4 pupil, adapting approaches to suit their needs.
* Use or learn British Sign Language (BSL) to aid communication.
* Build a strong, supportive relationship to encourage engagement in learning.
* Implement behavior strategies and offer emotional support.
* Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience in PRU, alternative provision, or SEMH/SEN settings is highly desirable.
* Knowledge or willingness to learn BSL.
* Strong resilience, patience, and adaptability.
* Ability to build trusting and positive relationships with students.
* A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.
