We are looking for an exceptional pharmacist to join our team as consultant pharmacist for Nephrology services. The successful applicant will be a team player who has significant clinical leadership experience at a senior level. They will be able to describe a strategy for the delivery of Nephrology pharmacy services locally and across the system and be willing and able to develop and deliver research.
Applications are encouraged from both existing consultant pharmacists & aspiring pharmacists looking to be accredited. The post is also in the process of being submitted for Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) approval for recognition as a Consultant Pharmacist position. Pharmacists yet to complete their credentialing would join as Lead Clinical Pharmacist-Nephrology and once credentialed would be awarded the Consultant Pharmacist Title.
Job summary

Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will be the Consultant Pharmacist for Nephrology across Liverpool Hospitals Group and will work with other local healthcare economy organisations to influence the strategic management of medicines used in Nephrology.
2. Lead across sites and ensure delivery of a high quality, proactive and patient focused clinical pharmacy service to Nephrology and its satellite units.
3. Work with other local healthcare economy organisations to influence the strategic management of Nephrology prescribing across the ICB.
4. Provide clinical training and supervision to the multidisciplinary team relevant to Nephrology.
5. Identify the clinical and economic impact of medicines use, develop and implement clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure and support the area to meet their clinical and financial targets.
6. Assist the Deputy Chief Pharmacists and the Lead Divisional Pharmacists to support the development of pharmacy clinical services and provide key clinical leadership on medicines optimisation across the Trust.
Job responsibilities
1. Provide cross site leadership and clinical expertise in the delivery and development of pharmacy services to the Directorates of Nephrology and Renal Transplant.
2. Develop and manage the renal pharmacy team to ensure safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service for patients and staff.
3. Work in conjunction with renal consultants, transplant surgeons and nurses in the nephrology clinics to identify and optimise patient co-morbidities and to refer to other specialties or services in a timely manner.
4. Provide Consultant Pharmacist level input to patient care, promoting and providing medicines optimisation for all renal in/outpatients and dialysis patients.
5. Lead the strategic direction and implementation of a harmonised approach to pharmacy services to Directorates of Nephrology and Renal Transplant.
6. Develop, manage, implement, and evaluate the renal pharmacy team services to the Directorates of Nephrology and Renal Transplant.
7. Lead and/or contribute to local, regional, and national nephrology workstreams which will focus on optimising the management of patients with kidney disease.
8. Use innovation to support effective patient outcomes, safety and experience aligned with relevant national agenda.
9. Work with external agencies to develop service delivery pathways to address unmet clinical needs in renal medicine.
10. Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources across the primary/secondary care interface and where necessary develop relevant protocols.
11. Line manage, coach, and develop pharmacists working within renal medicine and transplant.
12. Develop and deliver education and training to pharmacy, medical, nursing and other staff related to renal medicines optimisation at both a local, regional and national level.
13. To lead and maintain a portfolio of research, audit and service improvement within renal medicine across LUHFT.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Vocational Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy
* Relevant postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experiential learning
* Leadership/ Management Qualification or equivalent experiential learning
* Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
Desirable Qualifications
* Credentialled with the RPSGB as a Consultant Pharmacist (If not you MUST be credentialled within 18 months of starting the role)
Essential Experience
* Relevant post diploma clinical experience at advanced clinical pharmacist level
* Expert clinical knowledge relating to the use of medicines in the perioperative period
* Experience in senior management and leadership
* Teaching skills and experience and previous experience as a tutor for postgraduate qualifications or trainee pharmacist tutor
* Project and change management experience
