The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Safety Auditing Officer in the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland LSO area.
This is a part time position working 14 hours per week on a fixed term basis until 31 August. The location of this position is flexible, and the successful applicant can work from their nearest local station in the Western Isles. Applications from individuals seeking to work on a flexible working basis will also be considered.
Based in the Western Isles, and covering the WIOS LSO area, the successful candidate will play a key role in conducting Fire Safety Audits/specific fire safety visits, managing aspects of the enforcement database, assessing and processing short term let and other licence applications, and investigating fire safety enquiries and complaints. This role is available to all current SFRS employees and offers a great opportunity to be part of a team delivering a key component of fire safety throughout the WIOS LSO area.
Individuals must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
We are looking for individuals with a high standard of interpersonal, written, and verbal skills with excellent attention to detail, who can also demonstrate excellent organisational and communication abilities. Good ICT skills are a prerequisite for this post. Experience of conducting fire safety inspections and compiling reports is desirable.
Applicants must have a driver’s licence and have the ability to travel. Experience of fire safety and any related qualifications are beneficial, but not essential, as in-department training will be provided.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
