Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience
Location: New Mills, Global HQ (GL12 8JR)
Hybrid working: 3 days per week onsite, 2 days from home (4.5 day working week, half day Fridays)
Renishaws Engineering Technology Centre (ETC) is responsible for the early-stage research and development of boundary-pushing concepts, systems, solutions, technologies, and products.
Were a small team of creative, multidisciplinary individuals looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer to work on a novel concept in machine automation.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the ETC, youll focus on integrating concept-enabling mechatronic solutions with existing hardware and software systems. Youll be developing and improving the software architecture to support this novel concept. This includes opportunities to take on a broad range of further software development activities that will enable you to contribute to existing and future projects.
As a business and a department, we are continuously involved with R&D for new products so there will be a need to attend site to carry out certain tasks and were likely to ask you to attend more often during key phases of projects. Our main engineering site is nicely situated among open green spaces in a campus setting.
About the role
Support the development of early-stage prototypes, including testing, bug-fixing and problem solving, feeding back results to improve system designs.
Focusing on the development, testing, continuous integration/continuous delivery and maintenance of robust software components. Including involvement in the specification and design phases of these components.
Developing production-standard engineering software as part of the product design process for new products, from user facing front end desktop applications through to embedded firmware.
Contributing to team ideation. Suggesting and evaluating novel approaches to problems and helping to implement innovative solutions for new products.
About you
Proven experience developing software in C#
Qualified to degree level in an Engineering, Computer Science, Software Development, Physical Sciences, or a Mathematics related discipline.
Proven experience in the development of robust and maintainable object-oriented software, developed using modern software engineering methods and architecture design practices.
Experience in using unit testing frameworks.
Experience of using standard software engineering tools e.g. Visual studio, VS Code, Git, Azure DevOps, Atlassian tools.
Ability to create clear and concise technical documentation of software for various levels of users; developers, end users and teams.
Mathematical understanding of 3D geometry, vector transformations, rigid body kinematics and point data set manipulation.
Experience in analysing and presenting data to review, understand and improve system performance.

For this role, were open to considering engineers of varying levels of experience, but as the successful candidate youll be keen to learn new technologies and broaden their horizons, enabling you to contribute within a research environment on rapidly evolving projects. Youll also hold a willingness to put forward and independently research completely new systems, ideas, and solutions.
