Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 258,000 visitors annually; a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky, journeying from across the country and the world.
Position Purpose:
The primary purpose for this seasonal position is to assist the Retail Inventory and eCommerce Manager in executing the day-to-day operations of the department. The Retail Inventory Associate will report to the Retail Inventory and E-Commerce Manager. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
1. Assists the Facilities Department and Assistant Inventory Manager in the efficient, safe, and organized acceptance of product deliveries.
2. Processes product deliveries with strict adherence to proper counting, barcoding, shelving, and stocking procedures; maintains a safe and organized workplace.
3. Runs inventory SKU Movement report and pulls merchandise to re-stock Kentucky Derby Museum Store and Churchill Downs Store, and any pop-up and satellite stores.
4. Operates Museum’s POS program, TAM Retail, to complete inventory paperwork.
5. Assists in physical scanning, packing, and moving of product for Churchill Downs Store and satellite locations according to Merchandising Plan.
6. Assists in the setup, merchandising, and strike of all retail locations.
7. Assists in cycle counts.
8. Assists with all End of Year Inventory needs.
9. Assists with picking up merchandise from local vendor partners and delivering to Museum.
10. Maintains excellent knowledge of all incoming and new product.
11. Assists the e-commerce department by pulling online orders, answering phones, packing and shipping orders.
12. Abides by the Museum dress code.

Requirements:
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of six months of retail experience required.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to speak effectively with both individuals and groups.
4. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, as needed, in work situations.
5. Basic statistics knowledge of proportions and percentages preferred.
6. Excellent long-term attention to numerical data required.
7. Computer skills required.
8. Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal background check.
9. Must be available to work during the week of FFA and Breeders Cup, when held in Louisville.
10. Must be available to work Derby Week (including Opening Night, 502’s Day, Winsday, Thurby, Oaks, Derby, and the Sunday of Derby weekend).
11. Approximately 20-25 hours per week during operating hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM (open all days of the week) and during racing and nightly events.
12. This is a Seasonal position, running from February 2025 – July 2025.
13. Longer hours are necessary during peak seasons such as Spring Meet, Derby Week, September Meet, Fall Meet, Breeders Cup, End of Year Inventory, etc. in addition to bi-monthly staff meetings which occur outside of operating hours.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, and move merchandise around. This individual will be required to lift packages up to 50lbs. The employee is required to have non-standard workday hours during the spring and fall sessions. All indoor spaces are air-conditioned, although some job duties may take place outside, on the loading dock or in another non-climate-controlled space.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a crowded work area. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to navigate a crowded area and handle a challenging workload.
