This full-time, permanent position entails a mix of UK-based work and foreign travel to design, build, deploy, maintain, and recover sensor suites that gather data for marine surveillance.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of networking and communication equipment.
Primarily you will be based in Surrey, for hands-on workshop-based build phases of projects., with travel required across the UK and abroad to deploy and maintain the sensor suites.
When working away, locations are generally remote and range from the cold and wet of the Shetland islands to the heat and humidity of tropical islands. Much of the work is outdoors and ranges from the physicality of assembling scaffold poles and handling moderately heavy pieces of equipment to the dexterity of terminating ethernet cables (all of which may have to be done in inclement weather).
A large amount of the work is at height, whether that's on a cliff top, a lighthouse or up a mast - the ideal candidate must be ok working at height.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and test of panels, control cabinets, and distribution boxes
Wiring and panel production
Soldering, connector assembly, and crimping
Test, interrogate, and fault-find systems
Soldering at cable level and for PCB production
Build and test of cables
Battery cabling and termination
Production of water-tight cable looms and coaxial cable products
Use and maintain electrical tooling including a wide range of cable crimping tools
Electrical installation and fit-out
Working to Works Orders, drawings, engineering and production instructions
Interpreting 2D CAD electrical schematics
Power wiring, typically DC
Installation of marinised systems
Fault finding and rectification
Working with electrical designers to develop and improve products, methods and drawings
Reporting progress and any production issues
Management of stock materials, consumables and good production housekeeping
Job Requirements:
Experience in Electrical Engineering
Full UK driving licence
Strong personal organisational skills
Independent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Experience with Windows OS and networking
Familiarity with communications systems and equipment
Leadership skills with the ability to make decisions on the ground
Eligibility for UK Security Clearance
