Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor with a desire to work in the field of Elderly & Peri Operative Medicine to take up a Senior Clinical Fellowship post for a 12 months fixed term contract.
The post holder will work within the Older Persons Assessment and Liaison (OPAL) service providing perioperative medicine for older patients. They will join our enthusiastic and supportive geriatricians and specialist nurses to support the care of older patients throughout the surgical pathway.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be involved in the delivery of comprehensive geriatric assessment in pre-operative clinics as well as inpatient surgical wards. The work will be based around the general surgical, hepato-biliary, colorectal and vascular surgical pathways at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
The OPAL team presently consists of 3 consultant Geriatricians and 1 advanced nurse practitioner. The team works closely with consultant Anaesthetists, Core surgical teams and Allied health professionals.
The key aims of the team are to:
* Proactively select patients who present to the surgical team who would benefit from early specialist and individualised assessments and provide holistic management goals.
* Deliver early comprehensive geriatric assessments to appropriate older patients using a multidisciplinary team approach.
* To promote shared and individualised decision making.
* To improve the communication for patients and their relatives during their surgical journey.
* To ensure safe, high-quality care is delivered with compassion and tailored to the individuals needs and wishes.
* To facilitate safe and timely discharge from secondary care.
* To promote skills in the care of older frail patients in the surgical setting.
Minimum Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following:
* Fully registered medical practitioner with current GMC license to practice and be eligible to work in the UK.
* Minimum of four years post-graduate medical experience.
* MRCP membership (completion of Part 1 + 2 as a minimum).
* A current Advanced Life Support Certificate.
* Experience in Audit or Quality Improvement.

* MB ChB or Equivalent.
* Advanced Life Support.
* MRCP Part 1 & 2.
* MRCP PACES.
Experience
* Experience of working in a hospital environment in the ST3+ grade or equivalent.
* Experience of required practical procedures in medicine.
Other
* Experience of teaching medical students.
* Full registration (or eligible for full registration) with the General Medical Council and licensed to practice.
