We are looking to recruit an equipment fitter at Band 3 level to work within the Occupational Therapy (OT) Department at Sunderland Royal to facilitate the hospital discharge process for patients living in Sunderland and the surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job
You will need experience of working in a care setting, or in a patient or public facing role and have excellent interpersonal and time management skills. You will be responsible for the organisation and replenishment of our on-site equipment stores, planning and arranging routes for the delivery of equipment that is required to assist people at home on discharge from hospital, installing equipment into patients' homes and assessing for items such as grab rails and banister rails, carrying out daily checks on the department vehicles, liaising with Community Equipment Services and external companies and demonstrating new equipment to OT staff and students.
The OT Department is a large and friendly team and part of the Therapy Services Directorate within STSFT NHS Foundation Trust. This Directorate has a high regard for their support staff and learning and development is encouraged.
This role requires mostly lone working while out in the community, but supervision is provided by a department manager. As well as excellent interpersonal skills, you will also be required to document some aspects of your work electronically and need to be able to use a computer for administrative aspects of the role. The post is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with a requirement to work on some bank holidays if required. Due to the need to visit patients' homes as part of your role, you must be able to drive the department vehicles.
Job responsibilities
To deliver and install assistive and adaptive equipment into patients' homes in preparation for discharge from hospital that will help them to maximise their functional independence with Activities of Daily Living. The role also involves assessing patients and their homes for fixed aids such as grab rails and bannister rails. This is a unique role and involves mostly lone working in the community but support and supervision is provided by a department manager.
To be responsible for the replenishment ordering of equipment into the Occupational Therapy (OT) equipment stores and maintaining stock levels to the required standards.
To be responsible for the basic maintenance of the Occupational Therapy Department vehicles.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working with people with illness or disability
* Experience of working in a patient/public/customer facing role
* Experience of using adaptive aids and equipment
* Experience of using wheelchairs
* Experience of logistical planning
Physical Skills
* Ability to get in to and out of, and drive a transit van
* Ability to lift and carry equipment throughout the day which may involve going up/down steps or stairs
* Ability to sit at a work station to complete administrative duties related to the role
* Ability to work in small spaces where there may be a requirement to kneel or bend down
Qualifications
* Functional Skills (level 2)
* Licence to drive manual vehicles
* Additional qualifications relevant to post applied for

* Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Therapy practice within an acute hospital environment
* Knowledge of the geography of Sunderland and surrounding areas
