In the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), we are proud of our purpose – to enable everyone to live more independent, healthier lives for longer. To achieve this, and create a great place to work, we have four values: we are inclusive, we constantly improve, we challenge, and we are agile. If this sounds like an environment you would like to work in, we would love to hear from you.
The Office for Life Sciences (OLS) is a fast-paced strategy and policy implementation unit of c.100 people, working within government and with external stakeholders to ensure that the UK is one of the best places in the world for life sciences companies to grow, creating economic opportunity and jobs across the country, and delivering health benefits for the UK population.
As a joint unit between DHSC and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), we are uniquely placed to bridge the gap between government, the NHS and industry, to support, grow and maintain the life sciences sector.
We are a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive directorate. We make reasonable adjustments to cater to the diverse needs of our individual staff members and encourage applications from individuals from all walks of life – firmly believing that a directorate comprising diverse backgrounds and experiences leads to a more positive work environment and the formulation of better policies for the people of the UK.
In addition, OLS has a range of active and engaging staff-led corporate workstreams, including; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; Health, Wellbeing and Fun; Learning and Development; and Connections. Each delivered and led by individuals across the directorate, with responsible champions from the senior leadership team.
We are looking for a HEO to join OLS’ collaborative Innovation and Growth team. The postholder will work in the Health Innovation Policy Team, supporting delivery of policies to boost the access and uptake of health innovation.
The team is working to ensure patients in the UK are some of the first in the world to benefit from cutting-edge treatments and technologies, whilst supporting our thriving health innovation community to make the UK a destination of choice for research and investment in life sciences and boosting the UK Life Sciences Sector.
The postholder will work with colleagues across DHSC, DSIT, and the NHS to shape and deliver cross cutting health innovation policies to support the ambition of the NHS as a driver of innovation, working with both national and local innovation bodies such as the Accelerated Access Collaborative and the Health Innovation Networks.
Joining OLS offers an opportunity to contribute to policy areas of significant Ministerial, Parliamentary, and public interest, with real world impacts on health outcomes and economic growth.
