Job Description
To be a Social Media Manager at an agency like BWP takes something special. Something, I'm sorry to say, not all of you reading this will possess.
You see, to us ‘Social Media Manager’ isn't just a generic title, it means something.
It means you've cut your teeth at Social Media Exec and Senior Social Media Exec level. (Spoiler: If these job titles don't mean anything to you, you're probably not right for us.)
It also means you've been initiated in the wonderful world of agency life, where you're used to working on and communicating with multiple clients with multiple requests and multiple (often conflicting!) priorities.
We don't say this to alienate those of you who haven't had agency experience. We say it because we’re yet to find someone who hasn't been exposed to the agency ways of working that's been able to come in at Social Media Manager level for us and achieve.
And achieve is what we want our Social Media Managers to do. From the moment you start, you will be given clients to manage, colleagues to coordinate, and deadlines to meet.
If any of this scares you then please, turn around now.
Still here? Great, then read on...
Company & philosophy
We are BWP. This is our website Pretty much everything we do is on there so it’s a good place to start if you are interested.
<---- this is Ali. She leads BWP’s social media team. As well as being mad about marketing, crazy about content and savvy at social, she’s also big into hiring people who will work with clients as if they are in-house and manage their own time effectively. She’s not employed to micro-manage.
Everyone who works in her team currently has:
* Pick you own equipment. Have a brand new MacBook if you want it. We’ll draw the line at three extra screens for gaming.
* Annual training budget that's pretty unrestrictive if you can look us in the eye and justify it.
* 2-3 days a week working with our team in the Marlow office. The other days you can work where you like, even the moon if you can get wifi there.
* Company Bonus scheme (discretionary). If you help us achieve our goals you will be rewarded. We believe in sharing the wealth.
The company also provides in no particular order:
* A competitive salary (in this case, £27-£32k depending on experience)
* 25 days holiday, plus Bank Holidays AND an extra day off for your birthday
* A busy social calendar with regular socials
* Bespoke Personal Development Plans and the mentoring and support you need to pave your way to Senior Social Media Manager and beyond
* A culture of appreciation, reward, and recognition with monthly and quarterly awards and celebrations
* Company wellbeing programme including a free counselling service as needed.
…and probably more I haven’t remembered.
What are we looking for from you?
We’re only interested in speaking to people whose CVs and portfolios showcase:
* 2+ years relevant experience producing, scheduling and delivering social media content and ideas, with at least 1 year of this being in a social media or marketing agency.
* Creativity. We really value people who think outside the box and are looking for portfolios showcasing unique, creative and engaging content ideas that have met and exceeded clients’ KPIs.
Tick those two boxes? Great. You’ll stand out if you can also prove you are:
* Accurate and detail oriented. We assume you’ll put the same effort into ensuring your CV/portfolio is grammatically correct and typo-free as you put into your social content. You have been warned!
* Able to manage clients. You thrive in a client-facing role, you enjoy building relationships and can talk clients through what you’re doing in a clear, concise & friendly manner.
* A collaborator. You produce your best work working alongside creative teams and can brief and collaborate with content creators to create engaging multimedia content that delivers on KPIs and builds a strong presence on social media.
* Able to understand & interpret social media data. You will be in charge of monthly reporting so it’s important you can summarise and highlight key insights to maximise learning and shape future plans.
* A lifelong learner. You’re passionate about keeping up to date with current social trends and sharing these with the wider team. We want to create unique content and that means staying ahead of the curve and trying new things.
Next steps
If you are still interested, please apply with your CV and portfolio / examples of relevant social content you’ve previously created.
First step is a practical, showing us your skills in creating social media content for a client of ours.
Second step will be a chat with me. If you wear a suit on the call, you will be eliminated.
