Position Overview:
My client has an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join their Specialist Bridges Group based at the Severn Bridge Office in Aust, South Gloucestershire. The Specialist Bridges Group is responsible for the maintenance, management, and improvement of some of the UK's most iconic long-span bridges, such as the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, M48 Severn Bridge, and M5 Avonmouth Bridge.
You will support the electrical inspection and maintenance programme and help drive significant renewal projects within the Specialist Bridges Group. Working alongside a team of experienced professionals, this role is critical to the ongoing management and delivery of engineering schemes on these strategic bridges.
This position will act as the electrical technical lead and advisor for the team, providing electrical advice and support. You will interface and lead the Principal Contractor regarding the electrical inspection and cyclic maintenance programme for all Specialist Bridges. Assurance activities and site checks will ensure compliance with design standards and contractual requirements.
This role may involve outdoor work, working at height, and occasional night shifts. A full clean driving licence is required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure contractor compliance with Highways procedures, policies, Quality Management Systems, and Safe Systems of Working.
2. Plan, deliver, and report on inspection schedules for asset repairs.
3. Identify and prioritise remedial asset repairs for annual maintenance plans.
4. Provide sign-offs for completed works and escalate deviations as needed.
5. Monitor compliance with CDM, HSE legislation, and Chapter 8 requirements.
6. Prepare reports and records of inspection, maintenance, and construction works.
7. Support the Asset Needs Manager in developing and monitoring the annual maintenance programme.
To be Successful:
1. Experience in electrical inspections and maintenance.
2. A recognised electrical engineering qualification.
3. Good knowledge of DMRB and CDM.
4. Understanding of temporary traffic management (Chapter 8).
5. Bridge maintenance/remedial works experience.
