A Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests of various types, to provide high quality and reliable results for reporting to clients under the overall supervision of the Head of Department. Full training will be given. A Laboratory Technician should ultimately be able to work well with minimal supervision, whilst also working effectively as a key team member to maximise the overall service delivered. A flexible ‘can do’ approach is essential for this role. Key Responsibilities Sample reception. Identify and prepare samples for analysis. Analysis of samples by RIA/ELISA techniques Analysis of samples by PCR Analysis of samples using Biochemistry analysers. Use of the Matrix LIMS system and data entry. Carryout Lab tests and review results based on appropriate experience level. Maintenance and correct use of laboratory Equipment. Preparation of reagents General laboratory housekeeping. Reception of stock and reagents. Assist with method validation. Environmental/temperature monitoring. Adherence to written Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Controls, and Health & Safety rules. Adherence to written radioactive procedures as defined by the Environment Agency. Identify own development needs. Works flexibly and collaboratively. Adopts role model behaviour, values and beliefs. Plan own workload in association with the team and Head of Dept. Personal attributes: Qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and competencies required to fulfil the role Excellent care and attention to detail. ‘Can do’ attitude. Previous experience would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be given. Qualification/ experience in a scientific environment would be an advantage. Demonstrates a good understanding of the important elements of laboratory diagnostic testing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal. Strong organisational skills.
