Essex Sexual Health Service (ESHS) is led by Provide Community and commissioned by Essex County Council.
The successful applicant will work as part of the ESHS Outreach and Education Team, focusing on seldom heard from communities in Essex to support the reduction of adverse sexual health outcomes and health inequalities.
Main duties of the job
* Support the design and delivery of effective health promotion (HP) and behavior change communication (BCC) interventions appropriate to the needs of Seldom Heard from Communities, including People of African/Caribbean Heritage, Commercial Sex Workers (CSW), Men who have sex with men (MSM), and other groups at increased risk of poor sexual health outcomes.
* Deliver community engagement approaches that tackle HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
* Deliver targeted interventions that increase knowledge and awareness of HIV, promote HIV testing, and highlight the benefits of early diagnosis and access to care and treatment.
* Undertake comprehensive training to achieve Assistant Practitioner (AP) competencies, enabling the offering of HIV point of care testing (POCT) for HIV, syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infections.
* Support the wider service delivery across Essex, requiring the post holder to have their own car and a full driver's license.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Deliver targeted HP/BCC outreach interventions, including HIV & STI testing, health promotion, inter-faith/faith-based work, and GP engagement.
* Work closely with seldom heard from communities, tailoring approaches to meet their needs.
* Increase awareness of sexual health topics through professional training days and community education sessions.
* Achieve competencies to become an Assistant Practitioner (AP) for HIV/Syphilis point of care testing (POCT).
* Support educational establishments and professionals in delivering Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).
* Work directly with young people at risk of harm or sexual ill health through 1-2-1 education and early intervention programs.
* Maintain and use systems to monitor and record HP/BCC interventions, ensuring high-quality data entry.
* Establish and maintain relationships with partner agencies and represent ESHS professionally.
* Engage diverse communities using various methods including social media, community events, and public venues.
* Manage resource availability for HP/BCC interventions.
* Support the recruitment and delivery of the ‘Champions for Change’ health champions model.
* Work in partnership with the co-production and user involvement team to shape service delivery.
* Manage own workload and maintain communication with the wider team.
* Take responsibility for self-led education relevant to the role.
* Assist with campaigns and events related to sexual health awareness.
* Deliver a condom distribution service to increase access to sexual health resources.
* Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users.
Person specification
Skills
* Clean driving licence & access to a car with the ability to travel across the county.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
* Ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
* Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and database entry skills.
* Good standards of accuracy, numeracy, and literacy.
Qualifications
* Relevant Health Promotion Qualification.
Experience
* Experience of delivering and evaluating health promotion interventions.
* Experience of delivering education/training packages to professionals and/or community groups.
Knowledge
* Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
* Knowledge of HIV prevention, sexual health, contraception, and health needs of at-risk communities in the UK.
