What will you be doing? The Pipelay Superintendent is an onshore role based in Aberdeen reporting to the Pipelay Technical Authority. It offers a diverse and challenging remit where no two days are the same. Part of a dynamic, highly skilled team who believe in achieving together and going the extra mile, you will provide technical support on a range of fixed and mobile pipelay assets on Subsea7’s global fleet of vessels. As the first onshore point of contact, the role is responsible for the technical and operational aspects of fixed and mobile pipelay assets on assigned vessels. This includes ensuring safe and reliable operation in compliance with legislation, company procedures and industry guidance. Alongside this, the Pipelay Superintendent will have a commercial focus, creating and managing budgets and schedules to both maximise equipment availability and reduce internal costs. Provide technical and operational support through the project lifecycle, from tendering to engineering, resource planning and scheduling, and end to end operational activities. Review and interpret technical drawings. Liaise with Vessel and Lay Technical Superintendents to identify and schedule Technician requirements. Develop and implement approved preventative planned maintenance and certification programmes. Set and manage project equipment budgets and the annual maintenance budget. Liaise with Offshore Crewing to plan type and level of crews, both operational and maintenance. Participate in Vessel Assurance audits and compliance activities for vessel-based equipment. Undertake occasional UK / overseas travel to attend vessel and Company/Third party sites. Compile and maintain all up-to-date documentation relating to the safety and reliability of fixed and mobile pipelay assets. Research and write processes and procedures, presenting to on/offshore personnel as required. Manage the process from procurement to delivery of new builds, major modifications and overhauls. Negotiate best specification, cost and timescale for equipment purchases and repairs. Influence technical decisions on Company owned and managed equipment. Assist in the assessment, and provision, of training and development needs for Supervisors, Technicians and Marine Deck Engineers to operate and maintain assets safely and competently. Advise, assist and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including Company Directors, Project, Finance and Vessel Managers, equipment and crewing functions. Also, external suppliers, manufacturers, IMCA and classification societies. Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the OR Pipelay Technical Authority. What experience would we like you to have? HNC or Degree in relevant subject; Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or qualified through significant role relevant experience. A background in technical engineering, with practical experience in the operation and maintenance of fixed and mobile pipelay systems and equipment. People management experience. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, maintains collaborative relationships. Approachable, can liaise with multi-cultural colleagues at all levels as well as external providers. Credibility, with the ability to influence and negotiate. Numeracy and commercial awareness. Demonstrates initiative and ownership to work unsupervised, will support wider team activities. Mobility to attend vessel and Company/Third party sites, within the UK and overseas.
