The Opportunity:
Postdoctoral Research Associate in Climate Impacts of a Hydrogen Economy
We seek a 2-year (24-month) postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) to work on the European Commission HORIZON project HYWAY (Climate impacts of a HYdrogen Economy – the pathWAY to knowledge www.hywayhorizon.eu). The project is investigating potential climate benefits and risks of shifting global energy systems towards those using a greater proportion of hydrogen (H2). You will join the Edinburgh team and use models and measurements to quantify the origins and magnitudes of climate impacts associated with the shift towards hydrogen.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
The salary for this post is £40,497 to £48,149 per annum, appointed at Grade UE07 step 1 which is £40,497 per annum.
Your skills and attributes for success:
* PhD (or a Ph.D. close to completion) or equivalent in a relevant quantitative subject, such as atmospheric chemistry modelling, climate or meteorology modelling, or Earth observation.
* Expertise analysing atmospheric chemistry model/measurement data, in particular of hydrogen and related species (ozone, methane, stratospheric water vapour and aerosols).
* Excellent scientific programming skills in languages such as Python or FORTRAN.
* Experience working with climate metrics, such as Global Warming Potentials and radiative forcing.
* Proven track-record of peer-reviewed publications in a relevant field.
