The role of the Care Group Director is to provide strategic and clinical leadership for their Care Group. The Care Group Director is accountable for the overall delivery of effective, efficient, and high-quality clinical services in line with the requirements of the relevant commissioners. They will work with the General Manager for the Care Group to contribute to and effectively drive the strategic direction of the clinical services within their remit, including leading, communicating, and implementing the Trust strategy and operational priorities.
Other key working relationships within the Care Group will be with the Clinical Leads, Head of Nursing, and the Finance and HR Business Partners. As Care Group Director, you are expected to work closely with colleagues in other care groups and corporate functions for the overall benefit of the Trust and its patients. The Care Group Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Medical Directors who have corporate responsibility for matters of medical revalidation and appraisal, learning and development, patient safety and clinical governance, clinical quality, and standards of care.
The Care Group Director may also need to deputise for the Medical Director as required and provide advice to the Board of Directors. They will provide advice to the Chief Executive and input into wider Executive Team discussions on issues relating to clinical care priorities and Trust services and developments. The Care Group Director will also undertake a wider corporate role within the Trust, sharing and participating in the corporate direction and responsibility for the clinical strategy and operational priorities of the Trust.
On a day-to-day basis, accountability for managerial performance is delegated by the Chief Executive to members of the Executive Management Team who are individually and collectively accountable to the Trust Board for the delivery of clinical care within the Trust. The Care Group Director, supported by the General Manager, is operationally responsible to the Chief Operating Officer and will be the senior accountable officer for the managerial, clinical, and financial performance of the Care Group, ensuring delivery of the Trust Strategy as it applies to the Care Group.
Key Responsibilities:
1. In conjunction with the Care Group Senior Leadership Team, to lead the overall management of the Care Group.
2. To develop and implement a clinical strategy for the Care Group in line with the overall Trust strategy.
3. Securing the day-to-day (clinical & operational) delivery of high-quality, efficient clinical and patient services and ensuring that corporate objectives and standards are met.
4. Lead and chair the Care Group clinical/business meeting, ensuring that a robust Governance infrastructure of information, communication, and accountability is in place.
5. Work with relevant Executive Directors, General Manager & Care Group leadership team to develop a business plan and budget for the Care Group.
6. Ensure all medical staff are appropriately performance managed and reviewed.
7. Lead and motivate staff within the Care Group, promoting positive communication.
8. To assist the Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer in their day-to-day role and deputise where necessary.
Key Relationships:
The Care Group Director will develop close working relationships with medical managers and other colleagues within the Trust, including the Chief Executive, the Chair and Non-Executive Directors, Executive Directors, Associate Medical Directors, Medical Examiner, General Managers, Clinical Leads, Service Managers, and Heads of Profession. They will also develop close working relationships with relevant external stakeholders, including commissioning colleagues and those in similar positions of responsibility at other local providers.
