Improving Lives Plymouth in collaboration with Carers Trust will support unpaid carers by advising on a variety of matters including welfare entitlement, energy advice and other cost of living queries.
This role will endeavor to reduce existing utility debts and assist in negotiations with the supplier and customer, working with partner organisations and signposting.
Responsibilities
You will be required to meet contractual and grant requirements by delivering information, advice, and support services in a one-to-one or group setting.
You will work closely with volunteers to enhance service delivery.
You will engage with service users on a formal and informal level to ensure they are involved in the co-production of service delivery.
You will be required to work closely with your line manager to contribute towards developing plans, monitoring, evaluating, and producing regular reports.
You will be accountable for the use of charitable funding.
You will be an active member of the Improving Lives Plymouth team, working closely with peers to develop cross-project delivery to provide a wraparound service to our service users, reducing the need for them to share their story when moving between different teams within the organisation.
You will be required to assist with the implementation of identified accreditation standards.
You will be required to undertake any additional training relevant to the role to contribute towards your continued professional development.
You will carry out any other tasks which may be within the scope of the post to ensure effective delivery and meet the needs of the service.

Task List
* Offering direct support to carers, through 1-1 appointments (face to face /online /telephone)
* Develop, promote and deliver fuel poverty/income maximisation training workshops to carers (face to face/online)
* Offer carer advice surgeries in community settings.
* Income maximisation by offering benefits checks & accessing unclaimed benefits. Working closely with other relevant teams.
* Researching available energy tariffs, access water company social tariffs, and claiming payments including the Warm Homes Discount.
* Supporting carers to apply for a carbon monoxide alarm for the most at-risk homes and apply for locking cooker valves for those who care for someone with dementia.
* Supporting carers to apply for the Priority Service Register with energy providers (training will be provided)
* Supporting carers to reduce existing utility debts and assisting negotiations with the supplier and customer - working with partner organisations and signposting.
* To manage referrals for welfare benefits advice and provide advice and assistance on form filling, reconsiderations and benefits checks.
* Ensure that all records are kept up to date, including Carers Trust reporting template, Charity Log and other CRM systems as required.
* To keep records of the monies obtained for carers via the welfare benefits advice service.
* To keep up to date records and files of any advice given and resulting paperwork.
* To provide reports to Wales and West detailing the impact the initiative has had through case studies of individuals/communities that have been impacted by the initiative. This report will include the delivery outcomes of the programme, including any unexpected outcomes, any mitigation for under delivery and a summary of lessons learnt so that these can be shared to improve outcomes for other programmes.
* When appropriate enable and encourage carers to access the existing services and wider support of Caring for Carers services.
