Our Client is seeking a reliable and motivated Caretaker & General Assistant to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the site, maintaining its historic core while supporting its public and private functions.
The ideal candidate will take pride in delivering a high standard of operational support, ensuring the site remains a welcoming and safe environment for all visitors, staff, and event attendees.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Support
* Set up and pack down spaces for events, meetings, and activities.
* Ensure rooms and facilities are prepared according to booking requirements.
* Ensure heating is scheduled with energy efficiency in mind.
Cleaning and Maintenance
* Liaise with the cleaning team to ensure the site is ready for the day ahead and, if necessary, perform daily cleaning duties to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in public and private areas.
* Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs across the building and grounds.
* Identify and report larger maintenance issues to the appropriate team members.
* Liaise with contractors where necessary to carry out works and compliant practices.
Security and Key Holding
* Act as a key holder, responsible for opening and locking as required.
* Conduct security checks to ensure the safety and security of the building and grounds.
* Report issues to the line manager and direct major incidents to the line manager.
Health and Safety Compliance
* Monitor and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
* Respond to emergencies and assist in evacuation procedures if required.
General Duties
* Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
* Support in the upkeep of the gardens.
* Ability and willingness to support in all areas of the site as and when needed.
Essential Requirements:
* Proven experience in a similar caretaker, facilities, or maintenance role.
* Basic maintenance skills (e.g., painting, minor repairs).
* Physical fitness and the ability to lift/move equipment and furniture.
* A proactive and flexible approach to work, including availability to work weekends.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
* Commitment to preserving the historic integrity of the site.
Desirable Requirements:
* Experience working in a heritage or visitor attraction setting.
* Basic understanding of security systems and protocols.
* Familiarity with health and safety practices.
