We are seeking an inspirational Teacher of Classical Civilisation and History to join our highly successful Humanities Faculty. The successful applicant would teach Classical Civilisation at all three key stages and History at Key Stage 3.
You will be joining a thriving Classics Department working within a successful Humanities Faculty. The Classics Department plays an important role in furthering the academic ethos of Southend High School for Girls and we are looking for somebody who will be able to inspire our students to engage with the Classics in a rigorous and imaginative way.
We offer Classical Civilisation at A Level and GCSE; our GCSE class is currently the first cohort and they are in Year 10. All students in Year 7 have three lessons of Classical Civilisation a fortnight.
Results are testament to our diligent and hard-working students and staff and in 2024, 88% achieved grades A*-B in A Level Classical Civilisation.
A good number of our students go on to study Classics or Ancient History at university. In recent years the department has prepared students for courses at Oxford, Warwick, Edinburgh and King’s College London. We offer a variety of supra curricular opportunities such as sixth form trip to the British Museum, subject captains, classics based EPQs and whole school competitions.
As this is a growing department, there will be significant scope for the successful candidate to develop Classics at Southend High School for Girls to meet their own interests and areas of specialism.
