Portering Services - Supervisor
Hours: 37.5 hours per week worked in shifts over 7 days (nights/days/weekends)
An opportunity exists for a hard working, enthusiastic and motivated person to join the portering supervisory team. Applicants should have previous experience of supervising staff, and possess the necessary skills to be an effective supervisor. These include building an effective team, good communication skills, and ability to prioritize work, developing and motivating staff, and a basic knowledge of IT.
This is a busy acute hospital and the supervisor will be required to manage a team of porters in the delivery of cost effective and customer focused service

Flexibility is required in this busy department.
Previous experience of working in a supervisory role is desirable, although full training will be given.
Female staff are under represented within the Portering Department and applications from female candidates are therefore encouraged.
The successful applicant will be expected to attend all training courses deemed necessary for this post.
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide andmaintaina flexible, dedicated, comprehensive frontline support service to the staff and patients and provide a support service to other departments of the Trust. This involves undertaking a wide range of duties including moving and handling that enable the clinical and non-clinical departments to function effectively.
The role will involve taking control of the Portering Service as a senior member at weekends and nights when the Managers are not on duty.
To manage the staff in the absence of the Portering Manager.
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an efficient Portering service to the Trust.
To provide and to contribute to, afirst classcustomer care service to all users of the Trust.
To transfer patients, medical equipment and associated medical sundries as delegated by line management by use of bed, chair, trolley etc.
Ensure that the expectations of service users are met through the compliance with the Portering Service Standards.
Ensure compliance with written procedures for all aspects of Portering Services, these forming the basis of Portering Service Standards and induction training.

To transfer furniture andassistinrelocatingequipment during office relocations and or new developments.
To distribute and collect linen/laundry todesignatedlocations as in agreed schedules. This includes soiled and infected linen.
To undertake refuse collections of both clinical, specialists waste, confidential waste. To transfer furniture and equipment for disposal and general domestic wasteon a daily basis.
Collect,distributeand document for audit and security purposes specimens/bloods for pathology, including emergency collections and distributions as and when required by the service.
Provide the exchange, transfer and testing of portable medical gas cylinders and document a record of the usage. Report any identifiable faults.

Undertake driving duties as necessaryin accordance withservice needs.
Undertake hospital mortuary duties in the measuring, transfer,preparationand documentation of the deceased, also the laying out of the deceased in the absence of mortuary personnel.Assistthe police and ambulance with access to the mortuary.
Ensure that the expectations of service users are met through the compliance with the Portering Service Standards.
Attend training asrequiredto meet statutory and service needs within the Portering Service.
Ensure compliance with written procedures for all aspects of Portering Services, these forming the basis of Portering Service Standards and induction training.
To attend incidents of fire in line with operational procedures.
To provide an immediate on call response toMedicalemergencies.
Have responsibility for the safe and effective utilisation of equipment used by the Portering Service.
As directed,assistnewly appointed porters during the local induction phase, in awareness and familiarisation of the services provided and the processes that enable the service to function effectively,safelyand securely.
To ensure attendance, when scheduled at relevant training sessions provided by the Trust.
To carry out staff appraisals.
Toassistin the case of a missing patient.
To unlock hospital entrances in the unlikelyevent, ifSecurity personnel are dealing with security incidents. Ensuring staff have access to hospital at 6am and hospital is locked down at 10pm

Bed Management procedures daily at 8am, Monday to Sunday
