Overview
Reporting to the Operations Manager, AMP Power Protection require a project engineer to assist the projects team with smaller projects and carry out background engineering work, supporting the production and management of small builds in the workshop.
The role will suit someone with a technical (electrical) background who is keen to learn project management, or a project manager who already has electrical skills and would like a role that is not purely office based but has a portion of time allocated to physical electrical work.
The position is office-based in Newport Pagnell, with the opportunity for limited home-working.
Key Responsibilities
The role is a combination of project management and workshop assistance.
1. Manage lower-level projects from start through to project end.
2. Monitor overall project progress, resolving risks and issues and initiating corrective action plans.
3. Act as the central point of liaison and coordination with all stakeholders throughout the project life cycle. This includes liaising with the customer on all aspects of the project, keeping management informed on progress, planning project lifecycle with design department and manufacturing and ensuring all stakeholders are aware of the project status at all times.
4. Deliver on time, on budget Project Management.
5. Perceive problems well in advance and consider the broad range of commercial and technical factors in assessing the situation, identifying possible solutions and implementing approved solutions.
6. Take ownership of all documentation required to successfully deliver the project, including project plans/Gantt charts, action trackers, and any other customer-required documents.
7. Provide support into the larger projects team where needed.
8. Assist with getting quotes and undertaking procurement activities when required.
9. Manage any non-conformances as and when required.
10. Arrange delivery of final products from the workshop to the customer.
11. MRP activities to ensure materials are correctly tracked for in-house product builds.
12. Assist with smaller manufacturing functions such as small cabinet builds, battery builds, bypass switches and other assistance as needed to ensure timely delivery of the product to the project plan.
13. Any other work that is deemed necessary to fulfil the role within the organisation.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
1. Some form of basic project management experience.
2. Project management training (e.g. Prince2) would be an advantage.
3. Excellent written and verbal communicator at all levels.
4. Demonstrable ability to prioritise and differentiate projects tasks and sales support requests within a complex environment.
5. Electrical background with time spent in a manufacturing or testing environment. Knowledge of batteries and UPS products would be a distinct advantage, although training will be provided.
6. Must be capable of occasionally working outside normal working hours to meet customer project requests as required. Also, must be available for occasional site/customer visits as needed.
7. Fluent in English, and proficient in MS Office.
8. Clean UK driver’s licence.

Located in Newport Pagnell, AMP Power Protection Limited are a leading independent supplier of Power Protection equipment including UPS, Chargers, Battery Packs, Generators etc. These systems range from standard to complex systems and are supplied to many industries including Defence, Marine, Power, Water, and Transport.
The Package
Position is full-time, based in Newport Pagnell. Salary is £25-30k per annum (negotiable depending on experience), 4.5 day week (37.5 hours), 23 days holiday, free parking, company bonus and pension scheme.
Successful candidate will be required to undergo DBS and BPSS checks to secure the role.
